Well I just got all of my parts in today, the cpu, cpu fan, graphics card, and new mother board. I installed it all blah blah, took about an hour.
Here's my probelm:
I'm not getting any signal on my monitor from my graphics card. I've tried all three dvi ports, still, nothing. The graphics card is running I know because the fan is spinning. Everything else appears to be running as well.
I'm using the same HDD as I had from one of my other computers. I didn't think this would be a problem as I planned to uninstall all the drivers once I got into windows (the other computer was a completely different setup).
I also checked myself to make sure the graphics card was all the way in...Seemed in fine, put good force on it.
Any suggestions please??
New parts (all other parts are in my system specs):

On the back of your PSU there is a Red switch, if it is set like at 250 switch it back to like 150, you only can move it back and forth.

not getting any beeps ?. If you can try the Analog port one the LCD if you have one with the analog connector that comes with the Vcard.
You plugged in the power plugs for the v card and the one for the mobo ( either 4pin or 8pin).

Yea, try another slot and test it out. Also try using a different combination of PCIe power cables. If two are on the same rail, it might not be getting enough power to operate. With your PSU I'll be surprised if that's the case, but it's worth a shot.

I tried insterting it and starting the computer in another slot, still no luck...
I doubt it's a PSU problem, I've had a 8800 ultra hooked up this psu with a quad.

Do you have another PC or know anyone that can help you test that card? If it doesn't work on another PC, i would say it's a DOA card, no?
Do you use any adapter or do you plug the LCD cable directly to the card? If you use an adapter, that could be the culprit.
Also: it is possible that the LCD cable is defective and that's why you can't get a signal. Try hooking up the monitor in another PC (yours, if you have an extra one or ask someone else to help you with that).

In the installation manual, it says to uninstall previous drivers first, could my HDD be the problem here?

Hard drive won't be the problem if it isn't showing POST. If it is showing POST and logging onto Windows with no signal, then it's drivers. Even without drivers Windows would be running off of VESA, but with the X2 it might be screwing with it. Try using another video card to test out the motherboard, and maybe update the BIOS if you can.
Didn't see your post about the 8800 Ultra. I guess it's good to rule out the PSU then. Even still I'd try switching them around to see if there's something weird going on just to cover your bases.

No other PCI-E graphics cards (or PCI for that matter).
And no, it's not posting.

Then you can scratch "option 3" and, probably, "option 2" as well ...
That just leaves you with "option 1": don't you know anyone in your area that has a PC and that would let you place the card in their PC just to see if it boots? If it boots, the problem lies with your PC, somewhere and, if it doesn't, then the problem is definitely the card, in which case, i would consider RMAing it.

Are you guys sure it's the video card? Ravenas, check your 4/8pin and 24 pin to the motherboard again. Also, if you have a 12V aux molex connector on the board be sure to connect soemthing to it.
PS: I know I make you sound n00bish, but just reminding you to check all bases. :)

Bummer :(
@ times, i take my PC apart (new hardware, cleaning and such) but when i put it back together, it doesn't work :(
I think to myself: WTF is wrong? I'm sure i connected everything properly so why doesn't it work? And i end up taking everything apart again, checking for possible damages and such and finding nothing wrong and, when i finish putting it back together and power it on, it works  :twitch: :wtf:
Obviously, i must have done something wrong with my first attempt @ putting it back together but, for the life of me, i can't figure out what it was ...
Maybe, just maybe, something along these lines has happened to you?

You need to figure out a way to plug that card in another PC: that's the only way to be sure, IMO.
Maybe a computer store? It doesn't have to install the windows drivers: just boot, right?

Well other than that either the video card shot or a bios flash for cpu support (which I HIGHLY doubt), those are the only things I could think of.
You install it in the case yet?
Yes, just tried.

Shouldn't it be the other way around?
Still, that could still work because, if it posts, the problem is with the card but, to be absolutely sure, you need to put that card in another PC.
Who knows: it could be an incompatibility with the motherboard, or something like that, though i very much doubt it.

If so, let it install the drivers. Shut down take his card out. And try with just your's again. My guess is, it's the card. Hope you getting it work though. good luck

Oh hey Ravenas, I know of another way you can check to see if it's a problem with the video card.
Don't connect any PCI-e 6pin/8pin. Should prompt you via visual on your LCD to tell you to connect external power upon power-up. If you get it, then video card isn't gone and then I am leaning towards a power supply issue.

What would you say the power consumption difference is between the 8800 ultra 728 vs the ati 3870 X2 gddr4?

What would you say the power consumption difference is between the 8800 ultra 728 vs the ati 3870 X2 gddr4?
From a googling, the 8800 Ultra has a TDP of 175 while the 3870X2 is 200 watts. The Ultra has been reviewed up to 185 while the 3870X2 has been up to 225, so you might want to check the amps on each rail of your PSU to make sure it's getting enough juice. Another way is doing what Jr. suggested and just taking out all of the power connections and testing it that way.

Since your 8800 Ultra worked before, it's gotta be the video card. You can keep messing with it, but an RMA will probably be better for your peace of mind. Also, don't worry about fooling with drivers, those don't have anything to do with POST.

You are very welcome. Also, sounds like single card. I do have one other thing you could do before you let your cousin have his card back.
Install both his card and yours. Now I am not asking you to flash your card but grab up ATiFlash and use the " -i " command tag, see if it recognizes the card. Just pondering something .....
See if you can grab up a bios checksum and post your results.

Ravenas, I am a noob here and I have a similar issue. To make a long story short. My video board started to die and I figured it would be an easy fix. I bought a 8600GT and for the life of me cannot get the PCIE to see the thing. I have tried my card in a friends PC and both the new GT card and my old video card work in his system without an issue. "plug and play". I have a post on another topic here stating my problem. I am going to follow your post to see if you can resolve this issue because I haven't yet and neither have many others. People do not post when they have either thrown the PC away or fixed the issue. Good luck, and I have tried just about everything the others have posted to no avail.

I did and took the same brand new on and tried it to no avail. Remember, I have taken the video card from my computer that did work and now doesn't work on my system and had a friend install it with no problem whatsoever on his system. For some reason the PCIE port doesn't see my cards, either one of them. I am anxious to see if your new video board will work. I would like to think that even if the video board you have is bad you would see something when your system boots saying you have something in your PCIE port whether or not it works is a different story. People are quick to say it is my motherboard and the PCIE is bad. I have a hard time with that (not saying that it isn't) but alot of people online have the same issue but they never say what fixed their problem or if they threw the system through the wall from frustration.
Good luck because if you are successful I am hoping I will be too. I'll let you know if I get somewhere with mine.

Ravenas here is a copy of what I put on my original post a few minutes ago. I really hope this is what you have going on and it is this simple.
All I can do is tell you what I did and I don't know exactly what fixed it per se. I ended up removing the modem card and the ATI tuner card (I have MCE as the OS). I booted up on the onboard video and did all my work from there. I kept trying to focus on the bios upgrade and I was more frustrated than anything else with all the ideas out there (upgrade to this or that). Anyways, I went to Gateway support and found a place to reload my files for the system I purchased. I was lucky to find this because I never noticed this screen before. It gave me the option to load all my past sw such as the nvidia drivers for video and motherboard chipsets. I loaded anything that was close to what I thought could have caused this. Then I put my old 6200 card back in and guess what...I had a video screen. After a few minutes it began to fade out in that the screen went to lines and had trouble keeping up with my mouse movements. Finally it went blank and died (uh oh!) I decided to try the new card (8600GT) and it worked. I didn't let windows load their drivers but went to nvidia and loaded the latest and greatest and with 4 hours under my belt it seems ok.
I wanted to post what I did to resolve the issue of what appeared to be the loss of my PCIE port. I hope it helps someone else.
