its overheating. Try dusting it and if that doesnt work get a better fan.

Or your ATI card could be a POS.

It's most likely overheating. Try to get more airflow around it and keep it clean

I got your same problem dude but I got the saphire ( pci e ) one. from the search I did it turned out to be a bios problem. I still don't know how to update it and posted a Thread in this same forum. will let you know when I have some results ;)

Didja recently get new drivers for it? There's an AGP hotfix out for the 8.5's that my 2600xt AGP is running on. Seems to work alright.

above 80 s :S ... when rendering they increase in from 50s to 80s s in no time . Thank god I made a very good ventilated pc otherwise I think now adays my card would be a fried one :( lol
the problem is that I cant test it any more to avoid heating it up :(

thats way to hot for that card. mine will do the same thing at 70c, i know the pci-e had this problem becasue of the fan speeds. I don't know about the AGP's, i would edit the bios and change the fan speed. Usually they are only running around 45% peak. But at 100% you can't really tell, towards noise. But that's with a stock cooler.

yeah ... I currently started a new thread because I didn't find a way to either update the bios or else set the fan speed to increase ( my idea for the fan was to attach it to the mobo instead of the card ) but from what I read the problem with my vga's bios goes beyond overheating :( ... well hope I find some guides that work hehe :)

upload your bios, i'll see if it's the fan.

that's cool. download gpu-z and there's a option to save the bios. then once you save use winrar (or whatever) to zip the file, then upload.;)

give me a min, i'll just upload mine.
There the bios, Sapphire 1950pro 256mb Fan Fix. I hope this helps. My card runs about 11c cooler at 100% just at idle. I never have problems playing games.

all I really wish is to find a way to update the bios to : SA99902.007 and I found a tool online to manage the fan controller for this driver but i still didn't touch it to see weather it solves the problem by itself. I don't really like to mess with clocks.
tyt Cracker Jack and thanks for your help :)

yeah the 1950 can be kinda wierd. I flash my one time, went all wrong. Then i flash it with a 1950 256mb (i've got a 512mb) and it work. But for some reason the 512mb bios wouldn't flash or work for nothing. drove me insane. is it working better for you?

Guys ... I think I found a solution !!!
I was using my hiper Type R gfx card power cord and while doing some tests I decided to try the one that saphire provided ... the difference is that the hiper has 6 cables and the provided one only has 3 ...
Don't ask me why or how but on the one that sphire provided (3 cables only and you attach it to a normal 4 pin power from the psu ) the card seems to run smooth and great ... :D
btw ... this worked only after I updated the bios to the one Saphire provided SA99902.007 and followed Jack's tutorial :)
Any one has any idea on what or why this change made so much difference ?
This is the cable I used http://xtreview.com/images/x1950-pro-agp_13.jpg

The 12v rail on your psu probably wasnt supplying enough power? Bad plug?
Those hiper Type R psu are not known to be that great. :toast:
Glad ya figured it out :D

Last year I read some reviews all of them were positive regarding the Type R ... well :toast: hope this solution works for some one else :)
Apart from all the hassle I found this forum that I consider a very good one :D with a lot of technical people . Something good turned out from my bad experience :D

WAY too hot - that doesnt even sound characteristic of an Accelero :wtf: mine stays around 35 on idle and goes to 50 on load :wtf:
Im confused, must be a poorly ventilated pc?

Nope :S the fan was not spinning when rendering ... that was all the problem ... thats why I had to update the card's bios ... now everything is smooth :D 60 - 75 degrees after 7 hrs of rendering (using ati tool) 82 degrees but that's a standard and the card was developed to work under such temperatures from what I found.
I also did a 2 hour Scan for artifacts and everything went smooth with no errors :)
I pretty happy with this new BIOS

Glad you solved your problem :D And i bet your glad you joined TPU :D haha.
Im still a little concerned about those temps, it may not produce artifacts BUT it will be killing the card. Id try and solve that issue next.

yep your right , 80s are too high :
http://www.hwupgrade.com/articles/video/12/temperatura.png
First I'll try to change the thermal paste , I'll use MX 2 ... it reduced around 10 degrees on my core 2 duo. If that doen't work I guess I'll buy a new heat sink fan for my card but soon I'll upgrade to a HD 3XXX series :D but I'm still thinking about it. The HD4XXX sounds to be a bargain range of cards :)

As long as it doesnt melt itself i cant see the major harm in running it until upgrade.
Welcome to TPU then! :D

I do suggest to update the bios , and then try to use the provided cable ... my thinking is that on 6 rails the power consumption of the vga is different from the 3 rail one and this card was developed to work on the 3 rail one.
Giving it a try wouldn't cost anything.
What do you think guys ?

I had the same problem but with a HIS pci-E. I contacted the support and did everything they wanted me to and nothing helped. So i sent it back to the egg for a refund and got a nvidia card\
EDIT:could have something to do with the PSU i HAD a Hiper Type-R when i had the x1950pro a few times when i started playing a game the PSU would just turn its self off and i had the same problems that you are having
