An interesting thought about Euro 2008 group C

Let's assume that the Italy - France game ends with a 0-0 draw and Romania loses to Holland by 3-0.

In this scenario, the countries would have:

France: 1 goal scored and 4 against

Italy: 1 goal scored and 4 against

Romania: 1 goal scored and 4 against


Since all teams lost to Holland and tied among themselves, who would get 2nd place?

If there were only 2 teams, a simple penalty shootout would do the trick but, in this case, there would be 3 teams: how would they sort this out?

Someone has suggested that the way to untie this would be with the amount yellow and / or red cards which, IMHO, is quite possible!

And a Romania win would knock both Italy and France out, though i think it's unlikely, specially considering Holland's performance against both Italy and France.

Still, if post #1's scenario were to occur, it would be the first time ever (to my knowledge) that something like this had happened.

the dutch are playing excellent soccer and i highly doubt romania would beat them, especially by three goal's :laugh:

i'm very disapointed in the italian's this year they are playing rather poorly but my other side is taking up the slack so it's not THAT bad ;)

No, dude: a simple 1-0 win would suffice since Romania would get 5 points and thus be out of reach of both Italy and France.

If Holland slacks in the next game, Romania can win, but i doubt it, though.

Didn't realize it was so early, there: completely slipped my mind ...

IMO, Holland will only lose if they throw away the game or Romania make "the game of a lifetime".

Agreed im just really suprised with italy n france they both had chances against the dutch but were shocking under pressure at the back. The dutch play exciting football very attacking on the breakaway theyll concede a few goals but have heaps of scoring options the standout at this stage. And in answer to ur question with that senario ya menchined first up the italians would get thru thanks to some bs rules about performances at last world cup n euro qualifier wich is total crap :/

I think Romania will go through with Netherlands/Holland, Italy are shite now and Luca Toni is off form, France are good but somehow they are off form and its embarrassing.
