Ok. So I had a cracked molar (sp?) fixed on this past Thursday afternoon. Had a silver filling done. How long should I wait for the pain to leave? It now hurts worse than before the work was done.
I really havent had much dental word done so I'm not sure what the healing time is. Should I give it a few more days? Or should I call in an emergency appointment? This sh1t is throbin bad today. :(

yeah that sucks, get it checked out, better safe than sorry in a situation like that.
i have to go get 4 minor fillings. If i keep putting it off it's gonna be alot worse. I've never had a filling so they were telling me about my options. White stuff filling vrs silver stuff filling: she had me sold on the silver after dental coverage she said it would 'bout $100 for 4 silver fillings or $300 + for 4 white fillings. I thought shit, they are at the back of my mouth, who's gonna see them. So a said i'd go with the silver. she says ok that's great, she looks at me with a serious expresion and says "ya know, there really isn't anything to be concerned about with silver fillings. We've been doing them for 30 years with no problems." I take a step back and say hold on, wtf are you talking about (cept i was politely concerned)
"What is it that people are concerned about?" I asked her. "there is mercurey in the silver fillings" were the next words out of her mouth.
K so wtf. in Canadian Health Authorities have warned against eating salt or freshwater fish more than once a month due to mercury content and pregnant women should not eat fish at all. You wanna stick that shit in my mouth ... gonna have to think about that ...
I'm going with the white.

Give it a couple of weeks. I just had a molar chiselled out. Takes a while.

you calling me a sissy? :p
i'm just speaking from experience if the tooth was cracked there is a chance that it may have damaged the part that protects the nerve root

if it's bad enough, call your DDS and see if he can prescribe something for the pain. I would say you shouldn't have to deal with any pain for more than a week - tops.
if it starts feeling like the area around the molar is swelling (you'd feel a lump in you jaw, closing your teeth, one side will touch together and the other won't), defi give a call back cause at that point it's probably infected and will be in need of a root canal or extraction.
did they do any x-rays before placing the filling, or at least make sure that the pulp of the tooth hadn't become infected to begin with?

Yeah. Come here and we'll fight it out. While your here you can help fill sandbags. :D
On topic : Just keep an eye on it, it should be fine. Personally, I would rather remove my own spleen than go to the dentist. But that's just me.

Tooth pain sucks, i assumed he wasn't being a sissy. i had all 4 of my wisdom teeth yanked at the same time. They gave me a big bottle of T-3s. I never took one. i ended up taking out some of the stiches the next day cause the dentist stiched my cheek to my gums.

everyone feels tooth pain differently - I can handle some pain that other's would find extreme (had a tooth in need of a root canal once, dentist was surprised I wasn't on the floor in pain, as there was no nerve material left when they finally drilled open the tooth). But I also don't take well to anesthetic, either - last extraction I had done, I woke up during the proceedure, and I remember being in a lot of pain before I passed back out. Afterwards the surgeon came up to me in recovery and apologized for me waking up, but explained they couldn't give me any more anesthetic as they had already given me enough to sedate 10 grown men. Same goes for when I'm at the dentist for fillings and other dental work, it takes a lot to numb me up.

I don't do well with anesthetic either but for a different reason. I am a very active sleeper. if I can do it awake .. guess what... yep asleep to. the shit I've woken up doing lol. Anyways putting me to sleep only works for part of my brain. the rest does what it wants lol. so any surgury or procedure that needs me out cold is very interesting for the surgeon. the action never stops!

They did xrays and the whole nine yards. They said there was no major infection or anything else to worry about. The crack was from a filling that I had done as a kid, the dds drilled to much of the tooth out when he did it. Over the years it became brittle and finaly broke. Now my other molar is showing the same crack (both filled at the same time).
They gave me the normal "local" to numb it, then he started in on it. At first it was ok. Until the old filling started being drilled out. I about jumped up and choked the poor guy. So he gave a second shot. Then proceded to start again, well I was still feeling it, so a third shot was given. Finaly we were good to go. My jaw and side of my face was numb for 3 hours after the procedure :( The doc said that he pumped enough "local" into me to numb 3 people for hours :twitch: Hell, I didnt even get the good "laughing gas" :p Love that stuff.

yeah i agree with intel, i'd be down there in a heart beat. I'd even drive a load of sand down if I had a truck. My fubar'd back would only make me good for supervising though and i bet you already have enough of those. So i would end up just playing in the water and getting yelled at for inappropriate humur. I think I'll stay here and share the poor humor this way as to prevent physical injuring in these trying times.:)

I know Intel, I was just having a little fun.
I am getting old and you most likely could kick my ass in short fashion.
But after you beat me good you would have to deal with my wife. Good luck. ;)
Three guys had to pull her off someone that pissed her off so she did not beat the person to death.
She was raised in the inner city of Chicago.
She hates needles but is darn good with knives ;)
