View Full Version : My Drivers Comparison benchmark in games Thread, Constantly Updated with new drivers

This is moved to this site, it will be updated here now. Plz understand, its easier for me to update one site .

http://hardwarebenchmark.googlepages.com/

Why am i doing what i'm doing ?

I felt that the hardware review sites never updated their reviews with the
latest drivers and the reviews were done with unmature drivers and this affects
the consumer's decision. What if HD 3870 is faster than 9600GT with its current
drivers? What if 8800GTS G92 is faster than 8800GTX with current drivers ? What
is the best driver out there ? No review out there answers this question. SO i felt
the need to answer this question so users can look at this thread and make a decision.
With this motivation i will use this thread to keep track of the performance improvements
with each and every driver release . Right now i have a 9600GT , so expect to see
Nvidia drivers benchmarks right now .But i may soon get my hands on a ATI card,
so i will add ATI drivers too to this thread . I will add new games too.

Right now i'm beginning with Call of Duty 4 and FEAR. Expect to see World in Conflict,
Company of Heroes, Crysis. I'll take ur requests for games and drivers .

NOTE : this thread will only show if there r any performance
improvements with the drivers, not a comparison against other cards. Also the hardware
will not be overclocked, to show the minimum performance u can get out of this hardware,
So with anything overclocked, expect better performance.
Also i dont think i will do 3DMark scores here, as i dont think they reflect gaming performance
and they can change so easily even with the same driver. If there is a majority request to that
benchmark, then i'll do it.

Here's the CPU'z and GPU'z screen that will be used always :

The timedemos benchmarked were custom made by me. The maps were "Bog" and "Creek".
THe timedemo was run 5 times and bechmarked with FRAPS. the average fps is reported by
the extended console. If anyone needs the timedemos, i'll be happy to provide them.

I think this is a great idea, it's just too bad you don't have more GPUs to test this on. I would help, but it'd be kinda pointless.

werid tho mate, i have noticed a waaay bigger increase than this with mine, can you add the devil may cry 4 benchmark, and maybe a custom UT3 bench to the list? they are some of the games that have the biggest gains for me.

EDIT: also, if it serves the point of this post, you can add this stuff:

Q6600 @ 3591mhz
9800GTX @ 800/2000/2500
DDR2 @ 798mhz

1920x1200 All settings max + 4xMSAA

177.35 results added . wolf u were right , devil may cry does see some gains , but that may be coz its a demo and nvidia r still optimizing their drivers for it. other than that company of heroes saw a better minimum framerate, but that may just be one frame as is the case with world in conflict. Other than that the games seem well optimized and drivers do not make a difference.

Glad to see someone doing this, has my thanks :)
Just remember to put up some benchs before applying the hotfix so we can compare hehe :)

Are you gonna add the physX drivers w/ some UT action maybe. I don't know all the games that support it now, but UT does at least on some maps, and vantage is ridiculous w/ it.

alrite will do, but problem is no one has been able to get the physx drivers run on g94 i.e. 9600gt. g92 and gt200 have run on it. anyways i'll try on guru3d to look for wrking drivers for my card, or if pagalms makes a modded inf.

Ah true, sorry, I didn't realize you were running the 9600gt. I gotta read more carefully. :shadedshu Soon maybe.

Sorry, but i can't help here. I've searched my computer for Physx related inf's, but only one i found was in Ageia Physix folder and it's responsible for real Ageia Physix card recognition, not for CUDA enabled GPU's. So it depends on Nvidia when non GT200/G92 users will be able to run Physix on their cards.

Apparently the new nVidia 175.19 drivers take a pretty hefty performance hit http://benchmarkreviews.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=194&Itemid=1

Pretty shameful on nVidia's part :shadedshu

awesome, it's nice to see someone able to do this ona static platform and show the gains (or drops) as they come.

(@ oli ramsay's post to reduce load time)

That card is so strange. With one set of drivers the frame rate went UP when turning on 4x AA.....

Thanks for the topic, man! I've always wondered exactly how much things changed.
