I just received an E-Mail from AMD stating that some RV770 info can be posted today:
Effective 9:00 AM EDT on Thursday, June 19th, AMD will be lifting the embargo preventing the publishing of ATI Radeon HD 4850 performance previews. These performance previews may include ATI Radeon HD 4850 benchmarks, photos of the ATI Radeon HD 4850 hardware, information printed on related packaging or photos of the packaging itself and related pricing information.

Thanks for the news, W1z. Hopefully this will put an end to some of the speculation that has so plagued this launch. :toast:

Crossfire review below, looks OK but still cant compete with the GTX280 when in xfire, AA/AF has improved dramatically with the new ATI cards :toast: looks to be an excellent card, more so if you xfire two of them, if the price is right, they should sell plenty.

wow!
if the 4850 CF almost beat gtx280 i think 4870 CF will destroy it and a single card will be a match to 260
nice from AMD-ATI so they'll survive and we'll have competition at least in gpu market...
this is a good move from AMD they killing Nvidia launch

drivers can also mature by time, the 4850 sells for around 1440 nok here in norway
komplett.com got it in some of their etail store's, in norway, sweden and danmark

i think AMD did the right thing, and the 4850 looks great, as you can see the price is around the level of 3850 when it was first released
ATI is :nutkick: NVIDIA

Great now I'll selll my 8800GT and jump back on the ATi band wagon.
Actually on my X1950pro right now, since another one has died on me and getting a RMA.
Thats three in total.
Loved the performance but the longevity is a bit short for my liking.

Do you predict the supplies to be healthy? Since you tell there's chaos?

8800 GT was more of a showcase model to pull the fizz out of the RV670 launch. I bet even NVidia wouldn't have predicted it would beat the RV670. The biggest blunder was lack of supplies during X-Mas '07, in which ATI capitalised, everyone and their mothers bought HD38x0.
