It seems like more than a few people are interested in getting two 4850 or 4870 cards now that they've (more or less) lived up to the hype.
But Tweaktown (http://www.tweaktown.com/articles/1472/intel_p45_vs_x48_crossfire_performance/index.html) just posted an article comparing Crossfire on a Gigabyte P45 vs. X48 board, and the x8/x8 configuration can be severely handicapped at high settings.
Glad I decided to buy a Maximus Formula. :)
Only question now is, how much of a performance boost will the 4870 bring?

Interesting. Am I right in thinking that P45 with 2x8 PCI-e 2.0 is the same bandwidth as x38 PCI-e 1.1 2x16? If so, a new motherboard might be on the horizon.

No, I don't believe there are any x38/x48 boards that aren't pci-e2.0.

The X38 supports PCI-E 2.0.

Very interesting article. I was contemplating getting a P45 motherboard, but now I will definitely go with a X48.

X38 would do the job, too, if you want to save some money. There's a decent number of them floating around on the forums.

Yes, there is one on this forum as a matter of fact! It can easily be made into a X48 too!

:) I just found your FS thread right before reading this. :toast: It is tempting, but I need to sell my 780i board first.
Guys, any reports about crossfiring 48x0 cards with 38x0 cards????
