QX6700 for $199 or QX6850 for $239 , would you guys even think of picking up these chips these days with the wolfdales out and such. Well, Intel has there program again that I can get these for this price. The QX6850 is looking tasty to me, especially since its over $1,000 on newegg. But, what do you guys think?

I'm sorry, but are you numb in the head or just bragging? Get the QX6850 and I'll buy it off you for $240 if you don't like it.

Thats what im doing now. I mean, it seems that alot of chips now are comparable to the QX ones. But, it just seems that its such a mark down that it would be hard to turn up seeing as its on par with most chips available now. Or, I could do it like alot of the other Edger's and ebay it some time. I was just looking for what you guys thought in your opinions.

Intel has there retail edge program every year for people that sell intel products. I used to work for Circuit City at the beginning of the year, so I am qualified to buy it. I will be having it shipped to my parents house in the US if I get one.

Considering you could turn around and sell the QX6850 for triple the price, get the QX6850!

For that price the qx6850 is easily worth it. Hands down it beats anything else had around that price range, far and away. I also would like to know how you get those prices. Get 5 and sell me one. :D

WOO HOO, I just got my confirmation email, im all over that QX6850. Ebay here it comes!

You know what. I have been thinking some more about this. (in a logical sense). Should I even get the QX6850? I mean even at $239, that's still kind of high. The Q9450 has 12 MB L2 at 2.66 and is 45NM for about $300. The QX is 8MB L2 at 3.0 GHZ but is 65 NM ( and apparently an OVEN). Regardless, im on a P965 chipset. So, my board is getting dated as far as compatibility is concerned. According to ABIT, with my BIOS, the QX is supported. So, it would work. However, if I spend 239 on the QX now, by the time I go to update my board down the road ( what not go 45nm chipset). Im gonna need new ram (Why not DDR3) , but im thinking the processor will be dated in about 6 months. So, even at $239 , its not worth it? right? Or am I crazy?

I will take the QX for that price. Let me know if we can work something out.:)

So, you think its worth it? The program has been delayed. Should hopefully start this week. Maybe PM me in a few days (If you remember)

Considering how much they sell for retail, absolutely!

But Erocker, thats just straight markup. Its only the unlocked multiplier. If you read performance bench marks, every one pretty much craps on the QX6700 as far as compared to the Q6700 and heat output, and yeah the 6850 was the flagship a year ago, but with how everything is going now. Im sure Intel is not getting rid of them for no reason. The prices are even CONSIDERABLY low on ebay.

Well, I like my Q6600 and prefer it over my E8400 still! I would love a better binned chip with an unlocked multi to replace my Q6600. With a new socket coming out for Intel, do you think any of the current processors are going to be around for a while? It's still a good deal.

Im just thinking on the side that I for 1: Have a dated board P965, supports SOME 45nm with flash to beta BIOS. I doubt abit is doing much more than the beta I have. 2: Im on DDR2 800, which I love it, but will hold me back a bit when used with a Performance processor. Blah blah. Im jsut saying, that if I get the chip now, then cool. Im cruising! but with mild head room for overclocking, and if I do overclock everyone is suggesting watercooling for these because of the heat. apparently 80-90 degrees C is nothing for these. . So, knowing me, I would get a new board soon. So, Id pick up an X48. But, now it would be nice to have some DDR1066 or higher. So, then I wold need to ram. But wait a minute, by that time im thinking the QX is OLD NEWS! With fractionally priced processors available at the time with equal or greater performance. So, im stuck. :banghead: Welcome to the CPU world I guess. It just never stops HEHE I can never catch up

I think you are in the ideal situation for the QX. It has the unlocked multi, so the rest of your system won't get in the way. Do you really want to upgrade your entire system with a new socket just around the corner? Stick with what you have, and go with the QX. Just my opinion.:toast:

You can get a QX for HOW MUCH? At the very least buy it and sell it for a profit. That thing is a pretty hefty upgrade over your e4400, so you'll be set for quite a while if you decide to use it. I wouldn't worry about the new sockets coming out because the mainstream models are still pretty far away, not to mention DDR3 is still pretty pricey.

Forester, read this from the beginning. I tell everyone how to get one. If you know someone at one of those stores, your in. But you need to move fast. The program was already supposed to launch last week, but i think they are short on laptops so they postponed.

Just got this from them, so hurry guys:
Hello Hans,
Thank you for contacting the Intel(R) Retail Edge Program team.
We do not yet have a new launch date for the summer Big Deal. However, we are currently doing our best to get everything started as soon as possible, and it is currently our goal to try and begin within the next week.
In regards to the cause of the delay, there was a security concern which needed to be fully addressed prior to the launch of the promotion. We had originally anticipated that this would be completed by July 8, 2008. Unfortunately, we are still taking care of final details which is why we have not yet announced the beginning of the Big Deal.
Regards,
Corey S.
