I have sadly had to RMA yet another XFX 8800GT XXX which makes three.
The supplier is out of stock so he has gave me the option to upgrade for $ 60NZD ($40US-Roughly) to a 9800GTX.

Is the upgrade worth it?

How much faster is the 9800GTX as I was thinking of going back to ATi since I have a had such a bad run with nVidia this time around.

What's the length of the 9800GTX?
Is it longer than a X1950pro?

I'll have mine in tomorrow. By Saturday I could give you a run down of what I think of them.

Yeah do that.
I'm more interested in the real world gaming comparison than the benchmark comparison.
So if you can, give me the fps comparison in games between the two preferably at 1280x1024 res as thats what I run at.

Looks like I may have to either modify my case or or buy a new one to fit it though as it's 10.5" long.

Does anyone know the length of the 4850 and 4870's?

This time around for my ocs I want to setup a techpowerup bench program so I can test high overclocks in games. I need to find all the versions that Wizz uses that's what stopped me last time I used that program. I'll spend a day on it this time around and burn it off to DVD.

I do know my buddy that just got a 9800GTX the other week told me it runs ALMOST as fast as his 8800GT SLi setup. Very close he tells me.

I would go for the 9800 without hesitation! However, why are you having to RMA cards all the time?

Go for the 9800! :toast:

I was wondering the same thing....why so many RMA?

First card, was overheating.
Second was making an irritating high pitch noise which was coming from around PCI-E connector area.
Third ran beautiful and a mate wanted one so I let him borrow it for a week to test it out on his sytem, then he calls up near the end of the week saying it is making his system freeze and he's getting BSOD.
So I tried it out on my system and it wouldn't even boot.
I couldnt see anything wrong with it and he doesn't know how to overclock anything.
But he has locked himself out of his own BIOS so he may have done something wrong.

Also does it need a 8pin PCI-E connector to run it?

no, just 2 - 6 pin connectors, realisitcally it shouldnt draw much more than an 8800GT/GTS G92

So I would need a PSU with two 6-pin PCI-E connectors?

yes but with most brands u will probably get x2 power adaptors, mine came with 2 included (EVGA )

ive not owned a 8800GT but i did have the older 8800 GTS G80 and the 9800gtx is way way faster, sounds like a good deal for $40 imo.

No, upgrade to the HD4850 whenever it comes to your market.

Yeah thats is my primary plan as the 9800GTX is probably overkill for 1280 x 1024.
Just found out my distributor is selling HD4850's.
ASUS or Sapphire.

Interesting, it looks exactly like the 3850 plus it only needs one 6-pin PCI-E connector.

Looks like I'll be getting a Sapphire HD4850 as my Sapphire X1950pro still is a gem IMO.
Pity about the support forum though, second worst to Foxconn from my experience.

I just hope my distributer sells the HD4850.

I've probably overlooked it but is there a link to the dimensions and power requirements of the 4850?

Don't worry, it's smaller and consumes much less power than a 9800 GTyucks.

Yeah, it's roughly the size of a Sapphire X1950 Pro.
