I am going to buy either one TODAY. I don't know which one I want [I don't want the ridiculously priced E8500...]. Maybe you guys that know more about Intel could help me out. I have never used any multi-core product from Intel, but I know I have changed my ideas about AMD [ATM] and was willing to build an Intel rig.

So my question is. Which is better? The E8400 or the Q9450?

I am not an excessive gamer, I do play games every now and then...and when there is a LAN party I am sure to attend. However, I do dabble in video editing and photo editing and of the like. but that isn't my main reason for this rig.

hmm. that sounds good. however that means I will have to set up a paypal. lol. Never had to do it. But I am pretty sure I will be happy with the performance. But it is nice to know if I don't like there is a simple way to fix it. Thanks man.

I don't think one is better than the other both mighty fine chips, For you and means you have the option... get the q9450 it will help massively with editing and games that will be released 6months + from now will no doubt start to take advantage of it, But of course the E-peen it will give at lan partys isnt a bad thing either :).

These are in different price brackets. Cant compare, it depends on how much you want to spend. I dont think the q9450 is worth the extra $130.

The q6600 g0 at $10 more is a different story though. It depends on what you want.

I know their prices are very different, but I wanted either a 45nm Dual-core or a 45nm Quad-core. And all I have heard is that the Q9300 sucks, and that the E8500 is way too overpriced. So I couldn't go lower on the quads and I couldn't go higher on the Dualies. =D

get the quad, it should be able to atleast get close to the e8400 game performance wise and it'll definently be faster at video editing and whatnot.

I would have said the quad but reviewers favour the 8400. Mainly the price difference

Yeah? These prices seem low? well...the OCZ are on sale by about $25. And I got a $10 discount on the Rampage, and I had like $3.21 left on my newegg giftcard. All in all I am looking forward to building it.

Once I get my next paycheck I am going to buy a Samsung F1 and maybe a 3870 when they come out. My parents are giving me some money to buy a case which is why I want the Silverstone case ($329) lol. What I am saying is, if I'm not paying for it...how much are they willing to pay? lol. But yeah I hope this build will last me at least 4 years, because I don't plan on upgrading...I need a lappy for college anyway. =/.

I know. But I have a [excuse the pun] Rock solid Asus board. I love their design and functionality. After 2 years with this one, you can't argue that Asus doesn't put out quality products. I applaud MSI. Never have I had an MSI board fail on me and they have good quality products, but I looked at MSI boards and all the x48 were either 6 slotted to support DDR2-800 or DDR3-1333, and DFI..i've never used them before. I am not a man of change. If it ain't broke..in this case, broke yet..don't fix it.

How bout I give you a benchmark comparison between an E8400 @ 4GHz & Q9450 @3.8GHz. Using an 8800GTX and/or 3870? PCMark05 3DMark05 & 3DMark06. Windows XP and/or Windows Vista (both 32bit)
