View Full Version : Asus A8N-SLI Premium question.
Hi folks.
I've a question about an upgrade to my ancient machine. In the next few weeks I'm going to finally pull my Asus A8N-SLI Premium board out of the closet and upgrade my 'OLD' Asus A7V600.
My question pertains to the video card selection. I'm on a tight budget , as usual (family man), and I'd like to use the HiS HD3850 . http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductReview.aspx?Item=N82E16814161215
Will this gpu be compatible with the nvidia nforce4 chipset on my MoBo ?

It will work, yes. But at $150, you could almost get a HD4850?...If you can't swing that, I would go for a cheaper 3850, save you some money.
Yea I guess thats a bit high compared to the 4850 cost vs performance. I read that there are some heat issues with those cards and that the drivers are not 100% yet.
This is my other option. The Diamond HD 3870 w/ FREE shipping.http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814103050
My budget is about $160 , I have a Antec Neo-power 480W PS and I prefer the big two slot coolers.:rockout:

lol, well....you would get a lot more performance with a 4850. And they do not have overheating issues, they run at a perfectly fine temperature. But, if you don't want it....then the 3870 is a great choice.
What kind of PSU are you using?

Antec Neo-Power 480w.:ohwell: Not strong enough for the 4850?
An upgrade of that @ present is not in the cards. Pun intended.

That PSU will be fine for a 3850/3870/4850:)
I'm kinda partial to the HiS version w/the blue cooler for $159.99 :D

I went from that exact card to a 4850. Get the 4850, it stomps all over it! Don't worry about the "problems". You have a boatload of members here that will be happy to help you get it running, myself included!:toast:

Just put my HD4850 in a few minutes ago....tis a beast:eek:. It wrecks my old HD2900XT, I would recommend it.
I went from that exact card to a 4850. Wanna dump it off on me ? The 3870 ...
Which 4850 did ya get ?
Will I have power probs w/Antec Neo 480 ?
I wonder what's coming down the pipe this fall w/4850's ? Better cooling ? I really like the BIG coolers. When I had a HiS x700 Pro , I became fond of those big blue coolers ! :ohwell:
Maybe I'll sit for another 6 weeks and see what else comes out. Quite frankly , all the 4850's look exactly the same. Just different make up. You know HiS is going to unveil a 4850 w/BIG BLUE cooler real soon ...:toast:
