So my transcend blew up on me (not in a literal since) anyway i have a budget of about $120 give or take. I would like a 4gb kit and at least 1066mhz with good oc capability. I am not opposed to a 2gb kit, just prefer to have 4gb since my primary os is going to be vista 64

Thank you

Actually Mushkin had a really good deal last week on a 4GB kit @ 4-4-4-12, I was showing them to Wolf, let me check to see if I still have the link and if they're still cheap.

First one is the kit I was talking about, but the 2nd is probably a little better quality. They're DDR800 though, I'm sure you can OC them past 1066though.

1066mhz bc i was hoping for 1200mhz.

i dont really like mushkin...there ok though.

Those Corsair Dominators, if actually the 1.1 revisions are hand picked D9s, so possibly your best bet.

I am starting to think my board is killing my ram... i have had some crucial that died in my maximus, my transcend died, and now im off to buy MORE ram. im leaning toward the G.SKILL ram i like the way the look :)

dark2099

Actually some G.Skill might be your best bet, I've seen some people around here talking about having issues with pretty much every RAM except G.Skill on the Max.

But I got my old D9 XP2s to 1200:

wont buy crucial again, went through 6 of there sticks.

first set i messed with a lot, changed timing, volts speed ect

second set i pushed to much volts through em so i can understand that

3 set i didn't oc but maybe 150mhz at 2.2 (recommened volts) and they died.. again

Wow! Guess I will have to look around better for sticks when I decide to get new. Out of the options in your OP, the G Skills.

Have you considered Corsair DHX 800 CL4 2*2 GB kits?

They are slower, in MHz, but faster, in latencies.

Here's a link of a review of these (FudZilla):

http://www.fudzilla.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=7278&Itemid=40

EDIT

I have a kit of Corsair DHX 800 CL4 2*1 GB kit (different then the one above: 2*1 and not 2*2) and i was able to OC it to 940 MHz @ 4-4-4-10 using 2.12 volts, IIRC: i imagine these 2*2 kits OC almost as good.

A) corsair dominator 1066
B) G.SKILL 1066mhz

Should i get 4 x 1gb or 2 x 2gb

farlex85
07-08-2008, 03:47 AM
I'd say the 2*2gb g.skill's. I doubt the corsair's are using d9's any more, most aren't, and I don't think they would be priced like that if they did. However, they would probably be good too. 2x2gb definitely though.

they're out of stock till the 11th so i think im going to try to order em then. plus i have to wait for my check from transcend anyway.

biostar tpower i45 is the best x48 board out there :toast:

and the obvious difference would be the chipset.. and some minor details.. but mostly the chipset.

panchoman
07-09-2008, 02:32 AM

freaksavior
07-09-2008, 02:46 AM
ohh, gotcha.

if i got the dfi x48 would my raid still work without having to rebuild it? i have about 400gb of movies and tv shows and games loaded on it

Get a Rampage Formula. Best X48 board there is. I think the decision between DFI and Asus depends on what RAM you are using.

i want a dfi. not a asus this time. i got nothing against asus i just want a different board. i dont like gigabyte much as they have no boards with 90degree sata connectors and i dont like there bios at all.

the Light version (LT) has 8 phase, Dark version (DK) has 6 phase.

meaning what lol?

So LT (green) is better than dk (orange)?

the Light version (LT) is 8 phase, 6 Layers, Capacitors better placed.
Dark version (DK) is 6 phase, 4 Layers, Capacitors placed around CPU.

It love my Transcend RAM! I just did a bench with four sticks at around 1250mhz!

As price goes, it's about $289. Idk, the Rampage extreme is going to be out soon, I wonder if there will be a price drop?

anyway would it be worth it?

I know the UT has more options on the board that LT and DK. The LT has more options on the board than the DK. And the DK has the least of all of them. You'd have to compare all the boards features with one another.

freaksavior
07-09-2008, 08:29 PM
ok so its like this then

UT > LT > DK
(DDR3) (DDR2) (DDR2)

cdawall

hey freak its board not bored and the LT is like calvary said the higher end board with bettwe PWM

ZenZimZaliben
07-09-2008, 08:51 PM
ok so its like this then

UT > LT > DK
(DDR3) (DDR2) (DDR2)

Not really. All of the boards come with DDR2 options but not all of them have a DDR3 option. That is what the T2R (ddr2) or T3R (ddr3) denotes.

The UT,LT,DK are basically the amount of extras that come with it, extra LAN cards, extra raid controllers, and extra cooling.

The best board out there? IMO it is a DFI board. p48 or x48

I went from RAID setup on an ICH7 with a 975X to my new mobo with ICH10 and P45 chipset. I moved the HDD's across, enabled raid in the bios and voila, it booted fine! So i would say you'll be fine provided that raid setup was configured on an intel SB that is the same or older than the new SB.

ZenZimZaliben
07-10-2008, 04:06 PM
I have awesome results with my P35 and much more cost effective if you arent planning on running crossfire. P35 only has 1 16x pcie lane, in crossfire its 8x 8x. But with one card this board kicks butt and takes my q6600 all the way to 4.2'ish Ghz, though to much heat for my water loop.

If I were buying a brand new board it would be the DFI UT x48 T2r.

freaksavior
