The holiday season is fast approaching, and ATI hat plenty of mainstream GPUs for AGP, but NVIDIA has a big whole to fill, as they have stopped the shipment of the tradtional 6800 AGP based GPUs, leaving the 6600GT as the fastest AGP product. More on that here at theINQ (http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=27736). But now NVIDIA will introduce a 6800GS AGP card in two to three weeks, based on the good old NV40 chip and will most likely be clocked at 425/1000Mhz. It's a close one, but it may even get some of the holiday season business. Just in time.

Hmm, NV40... Maybe soft-modding possible...

Well if you ask me, that may well be the case. Since nVidia does not offer any other 6800 AGP variant anymore. They may just bin every chip with 12 or more pipes and the needed speed as a 6800 GS. Why can't it be that easy for PCIe *sigh*.
cheers

What are you talking about? The 6600GT is not the fastest nVidia AGP card... the 6800Ultra is.

Not all NV40 will do 425 MHz. Nvidia is going to probably just dump all their NV4x cores on the GS series.

This is definitely good news, I've been waiting for prices of the AGP 6800GT to go down, and actually the prices have gone up! Must be the fact that nVidia is no longer providing manufacturers with these cores...
Do any of you guys know if it's possible to unlock the extra pipes in these cards? I know the possibilty is really low, given the fact that the cores are manufactured on the new 110 nm process.
Btw, aren't these cards supposed to be based on the new NV42 cores which use the 110 nm process instead of the 130 nm previous 6800 cores used. This new process is supposed to allow higher clocks, at least they were supposed to on the PCIe 6800GS, and it makes sense for nVidia to use the same cores for the AGP parts, don't you think?

nVidia is letting the channel dry out of 6800GT/Ultra parts. In other words, resellers cannot order any more even it they wanted to, as they are all gone.
