I was going to put together my HTPC this weekend and I found a good deal on HP Pavilion Elite m9300t series and ended up buying it. ( I know, shame on me :ohwell:).

My HTPC will be

- HP Pavilion Elite m9300t PC with TV/PVR
- Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1 (64-bit)
- Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Quad processor Q6600 (2.4GHz)
- 3GB DDR2-800MHz dual channel SDRAM
- 256MB NVIDIA GeForce 9300, DVI-I, VGA adapter,HDMI
- 320GB 7200 rpm SATA 3Gb/s hard drive
- Blu-ray / HD DVD player & Lightscribe SuperMulti DVD burner
- 15-in-1 memory card reader, 2 USB, 1394, video, audio
- Dual ATSC-NTSC TV tuner, PVR, 1 FM tuner, remote
- Integrated 7.1 channel sound w/front audio ports

Now when my system arrives I plan to change the processor. If I take out the Q6600 and put in my Q9450, will be it be plug and play or will I have to reinstall OS and all software?

If it will be plug and play, any takers for a newly pulled Q6600 (available next week)?

You might want to check HP's website to see about BIOS updates to support the Q9450 since it is a 45nm CPU. Other than that you won't need to reinstall anything for a CPU swap.

Wow. That was quick. Here are the Asus IPIBL-LB motherboard specs for that system. It does say it can handle Q9xxx.

Thanks. I will check the version system ships with. It will be built on Monday so they 'may' upgrade it. (yeah, right!).

if it's a newer computer it should just be plug and play.
