First build setup.. any advice?

Hey this is my first build and was wondering if this would be ok for gaming. Also if there is something wrong any feedback would be much appreciated. Just for info im trying to stay within 1500ish range. Thanks.

Processor- Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600

Sound Card- Creative SB X-Fi xtreme audio

But what if you get rid of the sound card and use that to get a 4870??

I always use onboard sound. My board comes with built in dolby digital live 7.1 surround ;)

Yeah on board sound is good enough for me I think. I wouldn't get a sound card if I wouldn't really need it.

the only decent onboard audio solution is supreme fx II by asus and it's basically standard onboard audio infact it uses the same driver (Soundmax ADI1988B) with some improvements like emi cover shielding, coaxial, optical and s/pdif.

sound cards are not only better in quality but have onboard memory, the 64mb can can improve your frame rate from 10-12 fps.

The only upgrade I would consider is a better cpu cooler. Not that the Zalman is bad, just that there are better choices.

I would get a Xigmatek HDT-S1283 or S1284.

As for the sound card, if you are at all picky about sound quality, then keep it. But if you are the type of person that thinks the stock earbuds from just about any mp3 player sound good enough, then skip the sound card, and spend the money on your gfx card.

If you are going to use vista,then ditch the sound card.It is only a crappy extreme audio anyway(which has no 64mb onboard memory)

Looks good. Ditch the shitty sound though. If you really must have a seperate audio board grab a Xonar D2X or Xonar DX. You might also want to swap that Corsair to some G.Skill. Typically G.Skill will OC much better, and should also be compatible with the P5Q-E according to the QVL.

How does PC10000 strike you?

That's right, the memory ran at a full 1250MHz at 5-5-5-18 on the Asus P5B-E without even hooking up the watercooling. I was very impressed.

only if I knew about the memory database before I sold my pair http://www.golden-joint.com/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif. this was the best kit I ever had because I got my moneys worth definitely the best sub $100 kit on newegg.

Here one for you guys. I got a P5Q-E wih intell duo core processor 2gb ram and cooler master 750watt power and all tha I can get work is the fans. They spin for about 5 secs then stop and nothing to the monitor. Did I fry something? HELP ME PLEASE!
