rofl! i went from a e4300 to a q6600 then to a e8400. i noticed the difference in e4300 to Q6600 and then no difference in q6600 to e8400.

So what am i saying...you will get a lot of performance increase.

x1300 is crap. HD 4850 is awesome.. Worth the upgrade.

x1300 is not crap , It never disappointed me at avg graphics (though I haven't played any high hardware requiring game :P)

wht about the psu ? I calcualted in psw requirement in http://extreme.outervision.com/PSUEngine
and it was < 300W, will my current PSU handle it or should I upgrade to 460W?

doubt 300w will be enough. pick up a Corsiar 450w (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139003&Tpk=corsiar%2b450w)

Honestly I would go with a minimum of 550watts and a quality PSU.

@erocker: I would buy corsair if it was not expensive :(

PCI-E 1.1, it doesn't matter PCI-E is backwards compatible.

here's you a good inexpensive 550 watt PSU http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371007

as for your performance gain, there is no comparison between your P4 and a e8400. The 8400 is gonna blow your mind with it's speed. Same goes for the 4850 compared to the x1300. What motherboard are you gonna get for the e8400(you do realise the P4 uses a different socket motherboard[socket 478 I believe] than the core2duo [socket LGA 775])?

my current boards supports all the 45nm processors (Socket 775) just need to upgrade my bios.

@calvary1980:

If its 1.1 then will 4850 work with it?? :S
