I am curious what people here think about this. The parents of a thirteen year old Chinese boy are suing the makers of World of Warcraft by claiming that the game was responsible for their son’s death.
A thirteen year-old Chinese boy jumped to his death last year from a 24 story building, allegedly after playing too much World of Warcraft. The parents of the boy are now suing game maker Blizzard with the help of lawyer and “internet game addiction researcher.” The legal team also plans on filing class action suits against “the whole game industry on behalf of other parents.”

It does make you stop and wonder. Can video games be an addiction?
Addiction is defined as: "The condition of being habitually or compulsively occupied with or or involved in something." I'm sure there are a lot of people (including me) that can say they are habitually occupied with video games. However, by this definition wouldn't other activities, like sports, reading, music, or other hobbies also be considered "addictions"? Should you sue your school if you get injured playing a sport?
Write me a five page essay (double spaced) due by the end of the week.

I have to agree. If you kill yourself over a game you've got other, more serious, problems to begin with.

i agree what was the kids condition before hand for all we know he could have been pumpin 150mg of zoloft..
the parents shouldn't be allowed to sue; they should be sent to prison for not keeping tabs on their children.

They are parents, they are protective of their children, something goes wrong, and they don't know why, they have to put the blame to something. What better than a game.
I think it’s a total load of BS that a game would make you jump of a building. I believe that they might be addictive, but to make you doing something of that degree. That's just the parents being defensive IMO.

World of Warcraft is addictive.
But its the parents fault that the kid jumped off the building, where were they the whole time he played WoW?
He should've stuck to Guild Wars... ;) (j/k)
