Hi Folks,

i just read the Article from Wizzard where one could patch the bios of a x800/x850 to x800xt/x850xt and even PE.

I have a MSI RX850 PRO Card and i would like to unlock the 4 extra pipelines on it.

The problem is: there ainīt no modded BIOS for the X850XT.

Is there any other way i could unlock the pipelines, for example using a bios from another
manufacturer? (as some cards are 100% the same)?

Thanks for any answers.

Greetings,

Thomas

Hi Thomas
First of all post here your fuses data to see if your card is unlockable (Run ATI tool, hold down shift while clicking on Settings button, post here all lines including word "fuses").
You can use bioses from other manufacturers, but the type of the card must be same as yours (PCIe/AGP, 1.6/2.0 ns memory,...).

Hi peta,

thanks for the reply, ok, here are my lines from ATI-TOOL:

Catalyst Version 5.5+
Device ID 4B4B
Chip Type R481
Memory Size 256 MB
Memory Bus Width 256 bit
Active Pipelines 12
Default GPU Clock 500.00 Mhz
Default Mem Clock 500.00 Mhz
CONFIG_DIE_FUSES 0xFFFFFFFF
CONFIG_SUBSTRATE_FUSES 0xFFFFFF9F
CONFIG_ROM_FUSES 0x861
GB_PIPE_SELECT 0x2724

Ok thats the data.

Does someone know which Card is Similar to mine? MSI RX850 PRO.

Looking forward for you answer.

Cheers,

I recomend a BIOS by ATI, or Sapphire; ASUS or HIS may be good too as secondaries. You should be able to find one out of those here (http://www.techpowerup.com/bios/?search=X850+XT&Submit=Search). Just make sure they use the right slot i.e. AGP or PCI-E, the right memory 1.6ns or 2.0ns. You should have a R481 if its a X850 Pro AGP and the R480 if its PCI-E.

You may want to use RaBit (http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/9) to edit the BIOS you choose down to lower clock speeds. I don't know if all X850 Pros can handle the XT or XT PE speeds. Plus it helps you know if its a bad flash or not if you don't have to think about your system crashing for to high of clock speeds. If your flash is stable you can work your way up to the XT or XT PE speeds

I can tell you that your card is unlockable :-) Dont forget to backup your orig. bios first.

Hi,

i choosed an ATI Bios 850XT, it worked perfectly. The only thing was that i had to force flashrom to actually flash the Bios to the card (by using -f switch). ATI Tool now tells me that i now have 16 pipelines. Hooray. :)

In the device manager, it still says "X850 series" instead of "X850XT", is that normal?

Thanks for your answers and greetings

Congratulations ;) to have 16p
It is normal that you had to use -f parameter. X850 series is also OK.

Hi peta,

thanks for your answer. As far as i can see from now, there is no significant performance boost. Didnt run any benches so far, just played HL2 and GUN at 1280*1024 with all details and both games run perfectly.

And even the higher clockrates work perfect.

Nice. :)

You should get around 500 more points in 3DMark05.
Enjoy

Hi,

so the modded card works perfect, even at

519.75 (Core)
540.00 (Mem).

Now im asking myself if i could switch to X850XT PE. The card seem to work perfect at this clockspeeds now. Even the ventilator does not run any faster.

This is my card:

You think i could use PE speeds?

Thanks & Greetins

X850XT PE runs at 540 core and 590 mem. Try using ATI to recognize your max stable OC for core and mem. That we should see.

Hi peta,

thanks for the answer. Now the card runs fine with the XT PE speeds. Is there any need to patch the card with an PE bios?

Twitti if your card can work stable with XT PE speeds and the cooler is really XT cooler (dual slot) you have to flash it with XT PE BIOS. Personally I prefer to use BIOSes from ATI but you can choose also other. I like the video cards produced from MSI because of the high quality elements, good coolers and referent design (which is absolutely different on ASUS for instance). You are one lucky dude and you have to use that chance to press out the maximum from that (originally built to be XT) card :D .

It is up to you. If you prefer OCing by OCsoftware or setting clocks directly in BIOS. From my point of view OC by software is a bit safer, but if you flash the bios, then you dont have to use OC software-> more free resources.

Hi twitty,

I have the same card like you and want to patch it to a X850 XT PE.
For me it is a little bit diffcult to understand which steps you did, to patch it.
If you read this post, could you tell me which steps I have to do to get it working?

If you read this post, could you tell me which steps I have to do to get it working?

1. step
Post here your fuses data (Download ATITool, run it, hold shift key and click on Settings button, release shift, post here all lines containing word FUSE). Then I can tell you, if you are able to unlock pipelines.

2. step
Use ATITool to recognize your max stable clock for Core and Memory.

OK I get my card tommorow, I will do so. Which information shows you that a card is unlockable or not?

FUSES data show if unlockable or not. Just do the steps in previous post and I will tell you if you can unlock.

same like twitty. Problem with the ati tool. it scans the max clock, then my screen crash and the machine hangs. by reboot no picture. I had to plug in my ti4200 reboot. shut down and then my RX850PRO runs again. I think I don't want to run the ATI Tool again... Any ideas

Last working core Clock by ATI Toll was 571 MHz. I think 540 should be no Problem.

What Do I have to do to patch my card. especially I'm not sure about the bios version etc.

Ok I've read a lot in the last two days, so I just want to know if this is the correct order:

1. I run 3dMark05
2. I Overclock my Card to 540 Core and 590 Mem and see if the card works stable (run 3dMark05 again)
2. I create a Boot Disk and save my BIOS with flashrom
3. I use a Boot Disk and flash a ATI BIOS for a X850XT PE, because for my card there is no BIOS (I have the same card like Twitty MSI RX850PRO VIVO with a Arctic Cooling Silencer, damn loud this card)
4. I boot to Windows and the new Card should be find as ??? X850XT PE ?
5. I start ATI Tool to see if I have 16 Pipelines
6. I run 3dMark05 again to see the difference.

Is this correct?

Why shell I use a BIOS flash MEthod if I can use the softmod? It is the same or can I only unlock the Pipelines with the softmod?

You have to flash bios to unlock pipes. And you will be successful because of your fuses data :D
If your card does not run stable at XT PE speeds, use Rabit to lower the bios speeds before flashing.
If you have problems with AtiTool, try using newer version or ATITrayTools.

Wiggedy what do you mean under softmod? BIOS flashing is the softmod and only that can unlock the pipes which are (enabled on hardware level for your core). Flash with modified flashrom XT BIOS first and after that (with 16 pipes) try the overclocking potential.
Uninstall the old drivers and install the new one. If it can handle XT PE speeds and more (10MHz more for the core and 10-15Mhz for the memory) for enough long period without artifacts then flash it with XT PE BIOS :) .

wiggedy

Ok what I ment with softmod is these:
http://www.techpowerup.com/softmod/installation.php

I saved my original BIOS to FDD and flashed the BIOS of my card with the ATI BIOS of the X850 XT PE AGP. The Card is running stable with 16 pipelines and 540/590. Now I have XT PE Edition I think. My 3dmark05 score is 5860 (5200 before) points with an Athlon XP 2600+ not oc.

Do I have to install a new driver? I think everyhting is fine now. Do I have to do anything else ?

@wiggedy:
wich ram-chips are on your card?
1,6ns or 2,0ns? Because I've heard there is a problem with flashing cards with the 2,0ns Samsung chips!
Are cards except form the MSI where the mod works perfectly and are there any users of other cards here?
