Hi out there,
i got myself a Powercolor X850XT, PCIe, VIVO, and it works great as it is,
but i am Thinking of flashing it to XTPE.
to test the clock speeds, i tried ATITOOL, but i found a little problem with the
Fan Speed.
by rising the clock, the fan speed stays at the 5% it always runs, even when Temp gets
as high as 75 deg.
the same happens when i try it with the catalyst overclocking utility.
clock speed up, temp up, but fan speed doesnt change!
is that supposed to be normal?
the fan speed also doesnt change when i play fear for an hour (temp up to 65), so i guess its somehow a fucked up setup in the cards bios.
trying to set different fan speeds with ATITOOL works great,
it does what it is supposed to, the noise level is evil, but at least the card stays
cool.
i wonder now if ATI (Powercolor) limited the Fan speed to keep the card quiet,
thinking that for stock-clocks its cool enough, and if this changes if i flash it to xtpe.
judging by the pics of the xtpe the fan is exactly the same on both cards.

it would be great if anyone here knows about the difference xt - xtpe
and if anyone has had similar probs with the temp.

Thanx,
J:rolleyes:

I have done exactly that with my ATI X850XT PCIe, flashed the bios with an ATI X850XT PE bios and it works perfectly fine.

My only concern is that my ATI X850XT PCIe is actually a Crossfire Master card, and by changing the bios will that have a knock on effect should I buy a second X800 series card and a crossfire motherboard in the future. (as this is what I am planning to do when prices drop a little).

So yes it is fine doing it but make sure that the bios supports all of your cards features.

hi, thanx for the reply,

if its not just my card then, my conclusion is, that the xt
is basically a xtpe, restricted in clockspeed, and fanspeed by the manufacturer
/ ATI.
to justify the price difference they must have restricted the fanspeed, and with the inbuilt
overlocking tool in the catalyst you cant really change the clocks up to pe level because
of the temps.
that means changing the fanspeed with ati tool and than overclocking with the catalyst
to xtpe should work!

i tried and it really does.
that makes me happy , thinking of the price of my xt wich was 259€ (at peluga.at)
seems a fair deal for a card that works like an xtpe!!!!
next i change the bios,
:nutkick: :nutkick:

Hi, I'm thinking of updating the BIOS on my Sapphire X850XT card to XTPE.
But does it mean I can do more overclocking or what?

What's the reason of updating the BIOS.

Plz. bare with me, since I'm new with this... :ohwell:

some people would bios flash their xt's to a xt pe becuase u get fixated clocks of 540/590 and then u can try to see how much more headroom u got to increase beyond that , it all depends on how good the core GPU is , some pople i have seen get around 580/620 without artifacts (like myself), so its your luck , basically if u got a average card , good card or a great card . :rockout:
