Just installed my x800xl. According to atitool, I have 12 pipelines. Direct X claims my card is an x800gto. What do I do?

It is a x800xl definitely. I have an r430 core...

Changed the bios to a msi x800xl bios. Now reports stock speeds core and memory much higher, but still only 12 pipelines.

There is no possibilty how to unlock pipes on R430 core. If ATITool shows 12 pipes you have X800GTO. Someone cheated you. Some X800GTO's have R430 core too.
What is your max stale core OC?

You can post here your fuses data to be sure about the pipes.

This page has a review for an x800xl.
The image shows an r430 core. That card is the card I own, the box, packaging, and stickers on the card suggest it is an x800xl, it also ahs the dual dvi + svideo. What is going on?

Download, install and run ATITool (can be techpowerup). Hold down Shift key and click on Settings button, release shift. Post here all lines including word FUSE.

Yes that's what I need to know. Your card is realy X800Xl :D. Only thing you have to do is to flash the right X800XL bios. Did you use ATIflash or Flashrom for flashing? If you did not try Flashrom, do it. It can solve your problem.

Thanks for the help. Tried flashrom as opposed to earlier using atiflash. Tried a different bios, this time used the ATI one as opposed to the MSI. Still says 12 pixel pipelines.

Edit:
Decided to play some F.E.A.R. Running the card right now at 430 core 555 memory, stable, with factory specs.

I really would love to have those pipes. Is there a chance I have them, and ATI tool is incorrect? Any other diagnostic tools out there that can tell me what pipelines I have?

Man this is VERY interesting. I think your card should be a BIG step to discover the way how to unlock pipes on R430.

Try to make flash with empty bin file. Create some empty file named empty.bin. Flash it, but DO NOT restart, you must flash normal bios before you restart. Otherwise you will get some troubles.
Try diferent X800XL bioses from bios collection. And reinstall your drivers.

I am flashing through the bios. I have tried both the MSI x800xl and the ATI x800xl bioses, reinstalling drivers each time and reinstalling ati tool each time. If I make a empty bios, should I first flash that, then flash the next then reboot? Is that what you mean?

Yes. Flash empty, then flash normal bios then restart.

Um. I don't believe an empty BIOS is really empty. I think you need to find a Hex editor (There are freeware versions) and place a series of fs like this. (ffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff... ) similiar to an actual BIOS file. Then save it as a .bin file and flash your card with it. Try using these steps with atiflash.

1. C:\atiflash -newbios -f -p 0 blankBIOS.bin
2. C:\atiflash -newbios -f -p 0 XLBIOS.bin
3. C:\atiflash -v 0 XLBIOS.bin (to verify there are no errors).
Do all three steps without rebooting!!!!!

The -newbios command keeps the flash from carrying any parameters from the old BIOS over. Maybe that is what is keeping it stuck at 12 ppl.

Not sure how to make this empty bios file, sorry.

Edit: Bios problem fixed. Flashed using a different flash tool, the Flashrom 16p, I had been using atiflash and flashrom 240. Reinstalled catalsyt a few times and I have 16 pipes. Thanks so much for help guys.
