I bought a cpu/mobo combo (amd 64 3500 e3 venice retail + ECS K8T890-A) for $199.99 at Frys 3 weeks ago. I also bought Connect3d x800 GTO and hook it up with my new cpu/mobo. However, my computer keeps on crashing for no reason. It's just so random that I don't even know where to look for the problem. At first, I thought it was a power supply problem since I only had 350w, so I bought Enermax 600w and tried that out but that wasn't the problem. My computer keeps on crashing. It just turns off/on randomly.
I thought that it might be a hardware problem so I exchanged and got the same cpu/mobo, but it wasn't the hardware problem either.
Could this be memory problem? I have Centon PC2700 512 MB (just ordered PQI TURBO 1GB pC3200).
First, I'm going to try my new ram then if it doesn't work, I'm just going to buy new mobo. Can anyone recommend a good priced mobo at price around $70-80. I heard ASrock ULi SATA2 is really good mobo, but I read in the videocard forum that it has trouble w/ connect3d x800 GTO. Is this problem for all users who have cnt3d x800 gto w/ asrock board?
I regret buying this combo from Frys and I don't recommend anyone to buy combo from frys since they usually give you a cheap mobo. I definitely think that my comp crashes because of ECS mobo. What do you guys think?

I think its you memoery. I had the exact same problem... except that it gave me a cmos error when I turned it back on. I had to reset the mobo for it to even boot up. Then it only worked for a few minutes. Try new memory.

These boards are extremely picky about which chips you get on the memroy sticks.
TCCD on BrainPower PCB's are the best.
I suggest going to the mfg website and run thier memory configuration software to see which model # is certified to run in your board.
Most all memory mfg websites offer this service.
If you have a hard time in finding this, just call thier tech people and ask.

Ya I almost bought that combo at frys...The chip alone is over 200 bucks so thats not too shabby..Any way I have a chaintech vnf nforce4 939 motherboard got it at new egg for $63.99 good bang for the buck. I had problems with it crashing not posting etc...reinstalled Windows and binga banga boom no problems...I wanted to keep everything I had before the upgrade it seems from my past experience its better to dump everything and start completely over...I hate reinstalling everything but alot of bugs seem to go away until you create new ones lol............................................... .REDDOG

Leasons learned, running a 3200 400mhz system on 2700 ram = bad combo.

If you have a large hard drive, partition off a 30gb OS partition.
Then leave the rest of the drive for a "D" data partition.
Keep all your saved games and all your documents to that drive.
When you need to do a new install, do this!!
Perform a ASR Backup using windows backup.
You will need a floppy drive to tell the restore program where the backup files are located.
Store you backup on "D" Data drive in a folder called Backup.
If you ever have a corrupted file problem or a virus infection etc.
Just bring out the XP install disk, Boot to it and press F3 at a specifec time just after it asked for the raid drivers.
Place the ASR disk in the floppy drive and sit back, the OS partition will get formatted, a new install of win will be performed.
Then all your drivers, emails, and all your settings will be placed into the new Win install.
Takes about half an hour and no need to re-activate win all over again.
Now did you learn anything?
