Hey all, Firts post here and coming from a blah forum. Anyway, I have a Sapphire Radeon
9600 pro 256meg card. I went to put on some AS5 and noticed that in the top right hand
corner of the card there were what looked like cut traces kinda like on the old Athlon xp's
and knowing that these cards are usually locked, I wondered is this card a new core type
and has anyone else noticed this?. Its also possible to O/C this card out of the box. I dont
know much about ATI cards, as I have only owned two over an eight year period. I have
included a fairly decent pic of it. Hope this opens up a new discussion about the 9600 as
I would like to see how much I can do with it. Also, can this thing be flashed to a better
model?.

Thanks,
Corpse

No, the core used does not physically have anything to unlock last I checked. just having "bridges" doesnt mean anything ;) for all you know its used to determine memory size ;)

Best thing you could hope for/do is possibly flash it to the xt bios, but all that does is overclock it, as you wont have the auto-overclocking option because it lacks the hardware to do so, so you'd be better off just modifying the preset speeds in the bios, and save you the hassle of trying the xt bios.

Guess it may sound like a stupid question but, i'm sure there's a tool out there to see what
vertex/pixel shaders are open/masked on radeons. I am an ATI nOOb, so I dont know if the
rivatuner will work. I can try and o/c all day but it wont gain me much. Oh well.
