 Just wanted some peeps thoughts on this subject. Will be putting my new card in when it arrives so I want to get everything lined up now. I'm going from a raedon 9800 pro to a raedon 850xt. My game plan going in, is to 1) remove all of the old radeon drivers. 2) remove old card. 3) put in new card with arctic cooling fan. 4) download new drivers from the ati site for this card. Am I going about this the right way, becuase I have never done an upgrade before, and I want this to go as smooth as it can? . Also, as far as drivers go, does anyone have any suggestions on the drivers I should get from their site? I have nosed around on it but there are many to choose from.

Just found this site..........( I'm a little slow  ) but love it!!! Lots of good stuff here with very knowledgable people that helps us noobs out.

Thanks to all!

that sounds good...._first_ dl the drivers you want to use and have them on your desktop. then after uninstalling the ati disply driver from control panel ( go to control panel/add remove/ programs, upperleft corner.......then remove ati control panel....then reboot...
when it reboots back to desktop, you will see a couple times a window that comes up for you to search for drivers, click out of those.

dl the 5.10s if you dont want to use the CCC which requires netframework to be installed( from ms update ).

if you decide on the 5.10's use the "classic" cp.

im not sure if they have that on the official ati site...i always go to guru3d.com to dl drivers from, saves a little headache searching for drivers...they are all there in their dl section.

now after you have done that......go into your control panel for ati, and set the 3d and ogl to something other than application preferance say 3d to 6x anti allising and 6x anostropic...and then in ogl 6aa....4as.

Thanks Flash for the help!:toast: I'm really new to this stuff so I'm trying to figure this out as I go. Do you think it is better to DL the drivers vs. using the disc that comes with the card? I have seen where some peeps say Dl b/c the disc drivers could be outdated, but I see that there is soooooo many drivers on the different sites it could drive me to drink!!:toast: That being said, do you think that the 5.10 will give me the best preformance for my card? If so that is good enough for me. Also, what is the difference between classic and the others?

Now, I know, I know your thinking:banghead:! But the thermal paste post that you replied to, you said the paste comes with the cooling system..........is it ever preapplied to the cooling fan by the manufacturer, and if so will I be able to tell? I really appreciate your help and time, I'm just trying to get it all lined up before it arrives. Ordered the goods Friday so hopefully Tues. or Weds. I'll be able to be back up and playing some bf2.

Again thanks so much!!

your welcome....first...dl the drivers and save them to your desktop.

id say in your case...use the 5.10s
classic has a more user friendly format than the CatylistControlCenter ( CCC ) in my opinion, but then again im used to the classic , though at this time, i have to use 5.11's, because they are the first official driver for my vid card, thus haveing to use CCC which isnt bad at all...
and no opinion on the netframework deal....

as the the thermale paste...

no it wont come pre applied....what you will want to do, and this is a headache to do it this way..( not the application of the paste but the procedure ) but it will ensure that you in fact have everything installed correctly for it to be of maximum effect.

first FOLLOW the directions for installing the ATIarctic cooler as far as the putting in the screws making sure to use the "fibered" washers "next" to the board both sides...

then put about the amount of a grain or 2 of thermalepaste on the GPU.

then with a credit card, or something of that nature, evenly spread it across the gpu which is inside of a small, square metal support under the stock cooler ( you will see it clearly when you take off the stock HSF ) get some alcohol, and q-tips and clean off the stuff that is there from manufacturer...

this is a little trick..it is sometimes hard to exactly position the ati cooler in place...so get "2" toothpicks..... and put them in the "2" screwe holes you will use to tighten on the ATI cooler.... break them about in half or so , so that they are just long enough to come through the ati cooler.

now lower the cooler inplace over the toothpicks.....then remove only one toothpick and insert screw and then just get it down close to the cooler...now take out the second toothpick and insert screw and then tighten it down till it touches..then alternate back and forth about "1" turn each side till you "feel" some resistance.

now try to "lightly twist" the cooler..if it doesnt move your golden....if it does go 1/2 turn more each side and try it again..

now the pain in the butt part !!!!!!!...take it back off and make sure you see that there has been a complete and solid contact "seal" in the thermale paste!!!!! between cooler and gpu.......lol have fun and this will get you where you want to go with no problems....

now download ATITOOL......you can use that to monitor your vid cards temps by going into the "settings".... ( top scroll down menu ) Fan control...set it to "override fan controls " put in fixed percentage to say 65 percent...and then monitor your temps for awhile... there ya go.....
