Hey all,

I just built the computer below in my signature and wanted to build an intel Dual Core one was well.
But I dont know if it I should wait or build this dual core CPU now? If I do I want it to have good parts in it so I dont have to upgrade it for a while. The reason I am going intel is bc my other one is AMD. Also, i would prefer ATI since I am running a GeForce right now. Is anything worth waiting for coming out soon and if so what? Thats all I really need. Thanx.
Also if anyone has any info on best bang for the buck please let me know since I dont want to spend $1000 like the system below cost me.
Thanx.

From what I hear the AMD dual core is superior to the Intel dual core. The new AMD socket M processors that are coming out will also support DDR2. I would wait and get one of the AMD dual cores with the new socket if I were you. Unless you just want to have an Intel for the sake of having Intel. It looks like for about the same price you can get a better AMD X2 and for a little more an AMD X2 that is much better. $314 for a slower Pentium D and $322 for a faster Athlon X2 on Newegg.

Here is a review link (http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu/display/athlon64-x2-3800_6.html)

I'd just check at newegg for some prices. I don't know if you're going to spend alot less than $1000 on a dual core PC with ATI hardware though? And it seems that the X2's are faster from what I've seen as well. If you can wait for the M2's it'd be much better, unless you're going Intel, then you might as well get the system now. Don't know of any new Intel desktop CPU's for a while.

That does sound good I might wait then. Do you know when they are going to come out with them? I usually do go with newegg for everything, but CPUS and motherboards. They are way over priced on these. Pricewatch gives much better prices with their combos deal. I got my Athlon64 3200+ and MSI motherboard for $200. Both new. Thanks for the info guys

Oh I meant to ask. What would be the best bang for the buck hardware wise, besides CPU and motherboard. Thanks again.

What hardware do you want?

Would prob. go for the a gaming configuration...close to top of the line.

AMD processor, and a Nvidia video card.

An X2 4400 and a Geforce 7800GS would be a speedy gaming comp, close to top of the line but shaving off a few hundred dollars :toast:

And if you'd like to go ATI like you said you can take a X1800XL with that X2 4400+ or 4200+ even. Would be a very good rig... ;)

Just stay away from Intel for a performance dual core. For a single core the new Extreme Editions are pretty stout, but pricy.

Hey guys,
When will the new AMD M chips come out?
Thanks for the advice about Intel def. looking to stay away from them.

Besides for the fact that nearly no game is multithreaded and you're therefor better off with a single core processor for gaming.

At the moment maybe, but you know it won't stay that way much longer. So I guess it depends on how often you upgrade your cpu. If you upgrade often there is no reason to go dual core at the moment, but if you want it for the future becuase you'll be stuck with the cpu for a few years it may be something to consider.
