View Full Version : Overclocking yield lower benchmark results

As what the title states, I'm curious why that might be?

When I overclock I just raise the FSB and core voltage.

I used Sandra 2005 and 3dmark05.

Sandra drops like 1000-2000 points
3dmark05 also drops like 1000-2000 points (CPU)

Memory Benchmarking is fine and increases as I overclock.
*I don't believe it's my PSU, since it's new and it's a 480watt ThermalTake

Here are my specs:

pentium 3.4 prescott
MSI 865PE Neo2 Platinum Edition
2gig G.skill 400mhz
AIW ati x800xt

Any comments is much appreciated.

Thanks!

Umm, check the multiplier in cpu-z, sometimes when you raise the fsb, the multiplier will lower. To resolve this, got into the bios, and see if theres any options about cpu configuration.

Dissable all except HT, and you should see it start performing as it should.

Tell us how it goes ;)

You're right Kicking it does work!!

It's fine now....

But seriously, here's what happened.
I figure I may be overclocking it too much, so I reduced the overclocking.
Originally, I OC to 4.0.
Now, I OC to 3.5x.

When OC to 3.5x, my cpu scores seems correct, but I tried again right after end of the first benchmark, and it went down again. I tried again, it went down even further.

I just said Fck it, and I left it alone. I played some games for an hour and after that, I benchmarked it again.

This time it was fine. I benchmarked it 4 times in a row, and the CPU scores seems correct at 3.5x ghz.

It seems like my computer needs warming up before it can work at OC conditions. Now that's Fcking messed up!!:ohwell:

**I tried default clock speed, and benchmark scores were fine at boot up and warm up

Any input on this???

I think it's my retarded Motherboard with its idiotic "Core Center" (DOT)messing up my OC. <<<I disabled the DOT, but I think still on and underclocking it untill I "really" need it.

lol, that's very strange! I still think it might be the cpu setup in the bios tho, but if you havn't got a very good motherboard, there may be nothing you can do about it :(

Have you got any software to monitor the temperatures? If not, download a small program called speedfan. It could be that the cpu's overheating @ 4ghz and due to thermal throtleing, you'll loose performance.

Good luck
