Hey guys, I need a little help with overclocking my video card.

First off I am a in computer terms "n00b" when it comes to Overclocking. This was my first time to be exact. So there is a good possibilty there was "user error" involved. Hahahaha.

Anyhow, I ran the ATITool program and found my max core & memory.

Max Core: 403.41
Max Memory: 201.96 <---Yet to be determined.
Time Ran: 30 Mins

If your curious about the setup I am running.

Windows XP Professional w/Service pack 1
1.05 GHz AMD Athlon Processor.
512MG Crucial DDR

Anyhow, the max memory seems low...does it look low to you guys?

Also I play alot of online games, mostly counter strike and I seem to be getting a REAL LOW FPS...Somewhere in the range of 30's - 40's. I have a friend who has the same card that says he is getting in the high 70's. Is there any way you know of I can boost my FPS's?

Any other advice is welcome, I really dont wanna mess up this video card but I deffineitly want to get my best performance out of it.

[EDIT]

Ok...I take that back...Its clocking higher now. I have more questions.

Is running the internet or doin stuff on the computer while the test runs gonna effect the results. I was only surfing the internet and checking my mail. But would that effect it?

And also Is lowering my core ALOT and then checking my Memory gonna effect the results?
I ask this because when I tried to lower my core after saving it it would just reset back to the 403.41.

If it would make this all easier for someone and if someone would not mine...You can Instant Message me at xxbigbeardoodxx.

Thanks, Ryan

What manufacturer is the card, and what type of cooling does it have?

Also check what is printed on the RAM and write it down and post it here

Errr...the manufacturer is ATI i guess...its a ATI brand card.

Crucial memory is PC2100

And I only have 1 fan right now, but because of the heat I run my case with the sides removed so the air is free to flow through and cool. Do I need to get some extra fans?

The Video card is an: ATI All-In-Wonder 9600 128MB DDR, AGP 8X/4X

Ok, I ran the test again.

Core: 380.70 <---Lowered from 403.41 to test Memory
Memory: 271.35

I ran the test until the program deemed it to be maxed and safe.

Any suggestions? Should I lower it some for safety, should I put the core back up at 403?

Thanks Again, Ryan.

Lower it 5-10 mhz for safety (both mem and core)
Your one case fan is fine
What kind of cooling is on the card itself?

You achieved 403.41 on your core with only 30mins of "Find Max Core". Ideally, this should be for at least an hour WITHOUT artifacts. Now i'm not sure what your question is, but here goes:

Find Max on core and memory can affect one another if you've OCed one (core or memory) and that OCed speed is not stable. Lets say you've OCed your core and that speed is not stable (causing artifacts). When you Find Max memory, ATITool will start lowering your mem speed, not because the mem is causing artifacts, but becos of your core! So its important that you establish the first one you OCed is STABLE (which is why i suggest u run it for at least a few hours until it gets 1 hour without artifacts), before upping the other.

As for your memory (deemed to be maxed and safe) at 271.35, how many hours of artifact free scanning? If this is stable, then you should start finding max core until its deemed to be maxed and safe :) and VOilla, your card has been OCed to its max and stable.

Ok....cool...As you can see from the screenshot I lowered them down by about 10 each.

Uhhhh...and as far as cooling on the card itself...whatever was on it when it came out the box. Im not real sure...I am guessing it didnt come with anything.

Thats what it looks like right now.

But the weird thing is...it says I am getting 90+ FPS. But when I play CS I am still only getting like 40 FPS. Is there anything that can help this?

that spinning cube is not nearly as graphics intensive as CS, so dont expect to get the same framerates as the cube in games. You should download the latest Catalyst softmod driver from this link (http://www.techpowerup.com/softmod/downloads.php)
(softmod enables overclocking, and this may be why you arent seeing much of an improvement)

Also, what is printed on the ram on your video card?
