The new GPU from NVIDIA will run at a speed of around 750Mhz will have an amazing 32 pipelines and just 16 ROPs. ATI's counterpart will have 48 Shader units and 16 pipelines. To compare the G71 to the G70, which has 24 pipelines and 16 ROPs and was capable of processing 48 pixels per clock. This would mean that the G71 could do even more than that. ATI's R580, on the other hand, will still be able to push sixteen raw pixels per clock but will be able to render 48 pixel operations per clock. Now this seems to turn out like AMD and Intel. The new year will be quite interesting.

So which type of architecture is better. Which one will reap high quality images? Which one will reap higher fps?

It looks to me that nVidia is going for pure fps. But ATi is concentrating on quaility and effects like Super AA, HDR, etc. Are my assumptions incorrect?

no that sounds right. :)

Its just like intel and amd: Intel has the GHz, AMD the efficiency. And we all know who's share prices are higher ;)
