I was wondering if I should cancel my order since the posts on this forum claim the new Sapphire GTO2 cards are no longer unlockable to 16. Although the Newegg reviews claim they come with 16 pipes out of the box?? Here is what I ordered:

Thanks in advance!

The vivo gto2's have 16 pixel pipelines and r430 core that core doesnt overclock asgood as the r480 core the Gto2's with no vivo have r480 cores either way though it's a good card.

If both were the same price, which one would you recommend? Your personal choice..
ps.. if the 6800gt were the same price, would that be the best choice?

6800 gt is better than both.

get the Dual DVI and VIVO model they are definately already unlocked to 16p and still use r480s but use an r430 XL bios. Don't fret that because they still overclock like a r480.

The one you ordered is the one and everything i have read says an x850xt will still beat out a 6800gt http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/sapphire_radeon_x850_xt/page11.asp

Would it be smarter to just get this then?

No stick with what you got Dual DVI and VIVO add value to your card and since it already ships with pipes open your just paying for the name with the other. Evilcook and some others just got that card and they are getting killer clocks.

Oh and in certain openGL games the 6800gt comes out ahead but not by much and when you kick up visual quality on the r480 core cards they really shine. It should hold you over fine till your ready to get a true sm3 card. X1600 cards although similary priced don't seem to perform as well as the older x850 cards.

Zalamns are great everybody i have read that gots one are very satisfied. I use an ATIsilencer 5.2 and am very happy but i got that because it exhausted hot air out the back and i have poor case ventilation cause of my OEM case. If you got good case ventilation i'd get the Zalman.

my x850 pro @ 540/567 beats my 6800GT @ 400/1100 in most games, my 6800GT wins in Doom 3 i think though, mabey CoD2

Its still just a tough decision because of the 6800GT having SM 3.0 and the ATI's board lacking it, although it is faster in most games.

I am bias towards ATI I can't lie the 6800gt is still a good card but even without sm3 support recent games just revert to sm2 and the r480 is a brute. Its just a matter of personal preference but the GTO2 is a helluva deal. I got my GTO a while back and mine unlocked to 16 but uses 2.0 mem (slower than the GTO2's 1.6) and is an r423. I paid what the better GTO2's are at now at newegg.

If it wasn't for all the issues the x1600 is having i would push that card but most version are 128bit mem interface and even with sm3 support the x850 still beats it easily. There is a x1600 pro model with 512mb 256bit mem interface but that card is out of stock at alot of places, and if they ever fix the bugs either with a bios update or drivers I might get this card.

I've been following that too but no way I am going for the 128bit interface.
Tough, tough decision between the gto2 and 6800gt...

Well i had a agpx8 x850xt pe and a agpx8 6800 GT . The 6800 GT was much faster in quake 4 doom3 far cry half life 2 etc. The 6800 GT is just the better card.
