i recently started to push my gigabyte x800pro after receiving it back warranty replacement.suspecting it was now a down clocked x850 core as i got 594MHz core and 577MHz memory(still 2.0ns samsung) i flashed the bios intending to bridge the laser cut later.now it wont post and it hangs the mobo so i cant reflash using a pci card anyone know how to get round this? ive tried pci initialise 1st on two different mobos still no joy

well it has no post screen and it hangs the mobo.one of the 1st things a pc does at boot up is to read your graphics bios and display your graphics card model/vendor/bios version i suspect it is hanging here.i dont think any damage was done to the card .i think i flashed it with a 1.6ns memory bios and it has 2.0ns..oops!

nop seriously it stops the mobo dead -no hard drive activity no post bleeps nothing.
thats whats stoping me sticking a pci card in -booting on that then reflashing the agp cardback to original bios.as soon as i change agp card the pc boots(im having to use my old nvidia 5950 ultra-ultra slooow

what u do is create a dos boot up disk with a txt file on it plus your other bits and bobs.. put your paths and comands in the txt file.. then rename the txt file autoexec.bat..

boot from the disk the autoexec.bat file will do the rest without any user intervention needed..

sweet ill give it a go.i was going to take the bios chip off the board and swap it with one of a dead ebay card but most of those "faulty" cards of ebay are probably duff flashes anyway. cheers for the info.

it used to be.. the safe way was make one with your original bios before u did the flash.. if it failed just boot from the other disk to get your old working bios back.. the bios flash proggies used to be set to just do the business.. some now might need the odd (are u sure) enter press which u can easily guess at..

a .bat file is something that executes when u run it.. or runs the commands it contains.. an autoexec.bat file is one that just gets run on its own.. they are just txt files just like a .reg file is.. u make em in notepad then change the extension..

Can't you just pull the AGP card out, use the PCI card to modify the BIOS to start on PCI, then reinstall the AGP and then go from there?

nope the whole issue is :
x800 agp card in =mobo dead-wont beep or boot pci card and wont read hard drive floppy or opticals
x800 agp card out and the mobo bootswith pci card or another agp)
i can have a pci card in and nv5950 agp in and have it boot on the pci -just not with the x800
all i did was flash the x800 with the wrong bios(wrong memory type)so i know the cards not faulty-its only the bios thats causing this but if it wont run it wont flash!
moral of the story is dont mess with your best gear.
ive flashed several mobos and optical drives(better media support) never having any probs.
i just forgot the risks!
having said that it seems no ones had this prob so im just unlucky ---and gutted

This isn't right, it shouldn't do anything if it's not acessing the AGP port to display. Most PC BIOSes have the AGP card to post first, but you can change it to post with PCI first. Does your monitor lose signal? If it dosen't, it's starting, but you can't see anything. The reason you are not hearing any beeps is because it's posting an error that you can't even see, before is gets to any beeps. It should work if you set it to start on PCI.

okay look what u need to do is make it so that the pci card is the primary not the agp. You should take the agp card out find where it has the list to boot from vid card and put pci in front. This should solve your problem.

You prob have it set on a quickest boot option or something like that where it skips the vid card check or u changed it urself and forgot

I have a similar problem with my X800. According to what you said about your bad flash, I would not waste any more time and put that card to RMA. This problem can be solved only by unsoldering and reprograming EPROM. :(

i have set pci boot 1st
ive tried it in 3 mobos now still nothing -both monitors never come out of standby indicating both the pci and agp cards are not initialising as soon as i pull the agp the pci boots_by the way never do what i just did -yes i pulled the agp out live!could have fried everything
it did prove what ive been saying all along no matter if you dont belive me -the agp is stoping the mobo dead!
i think peta01 is right on the money but i cant rma it
i have a plan get another good chip solder it onto my card throw corrupt one away!
thats easy its a 8 pin surface mount.not so easy getting a live x800pro (2ns memory) chip on original flash!

My dead X800 does similar things with mobo. When I turn it on everything goes crazy - HDD and DVD are making strange noise, mobo show nonsence error signals.
So I bought a new GTO2 and everything is fine now.
