At first glance, the obvious choice is the 9500, yes, but hear me out...

So I've finally gotten to the point where my 2.4GHz just doesn't cut it anymore, but I wanna wait until Intel's quad-core setups come out next year before I build an all-new system, so I gotta do something to my current system to get me through the year. The answer: overclocking! Turns out that I've been sitting on Intel's most overclockable chip of the past 3 years and I didn't know it. I have a D1-stepping Pentium 4 2.4C GHz. It's quite easy to get this chip up to 3.2GHz, maybe even further. Obviously I'd need a better cooler.

The 7000CU is massively heavier than the ALCU for not that much performance gain (nill on some reviews), so I'm broken between those. Also, the 9500LED does not blow down on the MOSFETS and such of my soon-to-be ASUS P4P800-E board, so I'm not sure whether to get the extreme beast of a 9500 and lose the ability to cool down the MOSFETS. Any suggestions?

I've got the CNPS7000B-CU chilling a 3.2 P4 running on a P4P800-E Deluxe board (No OC) & it keeps it at 27 degrees idle and about 36 when running some pretty heavy apps. I can't fault it at all.

I also have a 7000B Cu-LED

My Sempron idles at about 25, and load about 35 at 2.2 GHz. The 7000 has a simpler design, and as you pointed out cools the mosfet which is important when you are overclocking. I got mine for $40+tax at a local pc shop to avoid shipping costs for the weight.

Heres a pic of it-

not really, more like intel's 2d most overclockable 2.4? :) how about the m0 ;)

and id go for the 9500LED if u can afford it, or the 7000CU, but its not worth it, IMO its a bad cooler, get an xp-90 or something

Haha 2nd best chip, I can live with that...I have a 7kAlCu right now, so I think I'll just keep that one and see how high the overclock is...hopefully I won't be temperature-limited

IMO the biggest plus to the Zalman 9500 is that it also helps cool the entire
case by assisting/strengthening the force of the air-flow through the case.

Most other solutions blow down onto the CPU, cause local turbulance and
interfere with what the intake and outake fans are trying to
accomplish.
