For CPU air cool i would get an XP90 Aluminium that would do a great job just slightly behind an XP90C which is the copper edition that weights more and cools about the same or 2-3c drop in temps. For GPU shoot for a Arctic Cooler Accelero X1/X2 which should be much better then anything currently out in the market...

If im not mistaken the scythe ninja, thermaltake typhoon, zalman 9500cnps and the a new one called the Sunbeam tunic tower 120 are the best. The xp-90 is older and has been bested.

The 9500cnps is louder at full, but preforms better than the ninja and the typhoon. If you put a faster 120mm fan on the ninja or the thermaltake they should become equaly cool & noisy. That tunic tower seems to be ahead of the pack but it is made by a less known company and the workmanship isn't as good as the very efficient design. Put a faster 120mm on that one and it should blow all of them away.

I have the 9500. It works great. Keep in mind that all the coolers mentioned here out perform older and cheaper/ not very well chosen water cooling solutions.

oh, temps

I'm running an Opteron 170 on the ASRock 939 DUAL-SATA2
Antec Sonata 2 with 2 120mm tri speed fans
Zalman cnps 9500LED with Arctic silver 5

running @ stock w/ fans on high

24c external cpu (under open window)
34c idle
46c load

30c external cpu (normal conditions)
40c idle
52c load

@ stock w/ fans on low

32c external cpu (normal conditions)
45c idle
59c load: dual thread of prime95

26c external cpu (under open window)
34c idle
52c load

all fans on high:
2.79Ghz @ 1.55v

40c external cpu (warm room)
54c idle
81c load: unstable

32c external cpu (normal conditions)
47c idle
72c load: dual thread of prime95

25c external cpu (under open window)
44c idle
66c load

all fans on low:

34c external cpu
54c idle
76c load: unstable

2.5Ghz @1.38v and the fans on high:

Hi:
Many coolers push air directly down onto the CPU and cause local turbulence
that can interfere with case air-flow.
A nice effect of the Zalman 9500 is that not only does it do an effective job
of cooling the CPU, it also assists in the movement of air through the case
helping to cool other internal heat producers.
