Hey all,
I was curious as to what a good GPU for under $120 would be.
I found these 2 and was wondering if I could get a better deal.
Thanks.

EVGA 6800 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130263
Also, what is the difference between the DDR and DDR3 memory? The XT has the DDR3 while the 6800 has DDR

...why are you being such an Nvidia fan? . I think you can get a 9800pro for $120, let me check. And yes, GDDR3 is better then DDR, I dont know how, it just is :D . Don't believe me ? look at the benchmarks. One more thing...6800XT is a joke, as well as the normal 6800 series with DDR.

The reason I was looking at Nvidia was bc they were on sale. That was the only reason. There were no ATI cards on sale. How are the x800GTOs compared to these cards or the x1600 Pro?

actually, you can do better then that! http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814102650 will get you a X1600Pro, and if you spend a little less, you can get an X800GTO! spend a little more, and you can lay your hands on a super-X800, and then after rebates, you'll have spent less then a hundred bucks! now THATS what I call a deal. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814127176

What is the difference between the x800RX and the x800GTO....Plus will the fact that this card is 128 keep it back to the others?

Talk about irony (lol)....So they are identical in that case. Can either one overclock better. I was also looking at some benchmarks and in some I saw the x800GTO as faster than the 6800 and 6600GT and then in others they showed them slower so I am slightly confused on which is correct. Thanks again.

oh WHOOPS, I didnt look at that memory! I was just doing a quick scan...either one should do fine. X800 "RX" is MSI's version of the X800, it shouldnt trouble you. its just the same tech at a lower price (and slightly lower clocks, but hey, thats what ATIsilencer4 is for, right? :P)

you know what that article proves? the 6600GT is NOT a bad buy, but...in my opinion, Nvidia cards "age" faster then ATI cards. I mean, if you were to compare an FX5900 with the Radeon 9800pro (an even match?), the 9800pro could not only run more games, but run them at higher framerates/qualities. Anyways, I'm very happy I spent the extra money on a X850XT. If you dont want to spend the money an X850XT requires, that X800 from MSI I showed you should do fine.

I dont want to spend too much for another GPU. In my current rig I have a 7800GT and spent a nice penny (a lil over 200 hundred). Thats why I am only currently looking at 100 bucks bout for this one. Looks like a nice card, just wanted to make sure it was the best could get.

oh a HUNDRED bucks??? 9800SE, VGA silencer, and softmod IN THAT ORDER lol.
$70 9800SE (256MB)
$15 VGA silencer
I'll give you links later if you want. What rig is this going into?

The rig will have the following specs:
CPU - AMD Athlon X2 3800+
Motherboard- Dont know yet (if know any good ones please let me know - no SLI or
Crossfire) - PCI-E board
RAM - 2x 1GB modules of Corsair XMS (3-3-3-6)
Hard Drive - 160 GB Seagate EIDE
Case - NXZT Nemesis Elite (3 120mm LED case fans w/ temp controller) + PCI slot cooler
for GPU and vertical airflow
PSU - Looking at either OCZ ModStream 520W, OCZ PowerSteam 520W, Antec
TruePower 520W
I am going to get the parts for this rig next week and all I need now a GPU.
I was actually looking on Ebay and the x800xl wasn't going for that much.
I saw a couple of auctions end around $90 so I am going to look into that, but not banking on it.
Then again it might be a good idea to wait till the 7600s get released and maybe the prices will drop off the current ones.

x1600pro, x800gto ddr2 version or regular x800 seem to be the ones in that range.

you coulda said you were looking for a motherboard! :p (but then again it was in your signature...)

THAT should be pretty nice on a budget. Though, a system with 3800+ X2 and a gig or two of high quality RAM isnt exactly considered "budget" :D

one more thing...frickin sweet case. you might as well be freezing your components lol. go with Antec, the one I got had a $50 rebate on it so I got a SP-500 (500W with dual 12V rails) for $50 :D
