Hi. Anyone who has Sapphire X800GTO2 overclocked to X850XT speeds or near, I have a few simple questions for you. I want a simple answer, that answers DIRECTLY to the question. Please answer.
1. Did you reach X850 XT speeds (or near) simply by raising the frequencies with ATiTool, and you did not do ANY kind of voltage modifications?
2. When fully overclocked, what was the core temperature at stress (approx.) ?
3. Do you use the original cooler that came with the card?
I will be very grateful! :toast:

Hi,
1.the fastest i can get stable is 570mhz on the core and 500mhz on the memory using ATiTool (beta 0.25 from techpowerup)
2.Core temperature after 3dmark03 test was 64C
3. I use the original cooler that came with the card.
hope this helps!

No voltage mod was done to reach speed of an X850XTPE with the Sapphire GTO2. Only need to have the fan at 100% for it to cool down even with the stock fan. I don't think it would matter all that much for an aftermarket cooler unless you feel as the rpm on that fan is getting annoying at those high speeds. ATI TOOL Artifact scanner at load i would see the GPU temp around 65c, but when you do play games that are less intensive then the artifact scanner your temps are probably in the mid or late 50's. Also if you're planning to get that card i would be very careful since it was limited and not sure if you can actually still mod the pp from 12 to 16 but it might still overclock but not that high even. Another thing once modded to 16pp you might not get the same overclock as you did before with the 12pp no modded you get it. good luck dude....
I actually have a Connect3D X800GTO modded to 16pp 550/565 that scores higher then 6k in 3DMark05 that i might sell if your plan doesn't work out and if you return it. take care....

Dynamic, I was hoping for direct answers to my questions.
I'll tell you why I'm asking you these questions.
I already bought my X800GTO2. But I have discovered that it's not what I expected - it doesn't have anything to connect power to - it doesn't seem to need additional power unlike GTO2's that I've seen in the net. And it misses some cylinder-shaped things that have been replaced by relatively much smaller block-shaped things.
I tried to overclock it, but the highest stable clocks I managed to get with ATiTool were 437 core and 537 memory - not very much compared to your cards. Also, the temperature at these speeds and ATiTool's find max mem or core was ONLY 51C.
Apparently, it isn't receiving enough power to be overclocked to XT levels, and there's no way to give it that. I'm planning on returning the card even though I already overclocked it - but I'm sure they'll have it back and change it, because it's not what it's supposed to be.
I asked the questions because I wanted a confirmation that my card is indeed worse than yours because of the missing powerconnector. :shadedshu

1. Yes ... I have decided to run at 530/560 and I used ATITool.
2. My temp seems to be in the high 50s or low 60s when playing COD2 and fan at 100%
3. Yes. Stock cooler.
Given your max overclock you most likely have an R430 core, not an R480 core. From what I have seen the R480 core cards would have the power connector and the R430 core cards do not.

Red cards with powerconnector are r480 and Blue cards without powerconnector are r430 (x800xl)

I have a blue f-ing card. DAMN. Although AtiTool does say that it's R480. But I guess it's not.

lol...
I haven't felt this PISSED for a long time. Dunno why i'm so f***ing pissed about it, I just feel like 'why does something ALWAYS have to go wrong'.
aogdhaskijgdnaskjnbdgkasjbddg, there you go.
:banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:
I hope they give me a refund for the card, because they didn't know there's two versions of it either. And I hope that there's real GTO2's still left for me when they do. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Atitool is just reading the bios and it has been edited by sapphire to show R480 instead of the real r430 core that the card has.

Cruc1al, you still have a x800xl card which is a pretty damn good card for gaming. Ok its not top of the range but its still decent and will play most games at playable frame rates and resolutions.
I would blame Sapphire for releasing so many different versions of the card and releasing the best ones early so that they get the good publicity and reviews before releasing lower spec cards on the unsuspecting public.

seems like agood scam now don't it, "come get an x850xt for cheaper" then they change the specs of the card to unload the overstock of x800xl's thay have lol.
oh well.
I still say for anyone who is currently looking get the x850xt it's cheap right now.

its not just saphires fault.. dont folks ever wonder why a card gets bios crippled and released at a much lower speed than its capable of and at a much lower price than it should cost.. saphire dont make the rules up its ati that does that..
it will be interesting to see what happens to the next gto.. the X1800gto..
trog
ps.. and any one who thinks selling a card for half pirice for several months so as some more slightly lesser cards can be sold for half price aint much of a scam artist.. he he
the real scam artists are ati who simply want the flagship cards of yesterday off the market as quickly a possible so as not to bugger up sales of todays flagship cards.. gtos are about stopping the older high end parts from messing up the sales of the newer parts.. its only enthusiasts that are supposed to know of their hidden potential.. he he he

be probably like the his x1800xt i just posted but underclocked, basically another x1800xl in a different package but with 1.26ns memory instead of 1.4ns. still a good deal.

Its Sapphire who make the GTO2 not ATI and Sapphire decided to release the different versions. It is a bit of a scam but...
it does gives consumers the chance to get a decent card for cheaper money if your willing to take the small gamble (or no gamble if you ask the seller questions i.e. Scan were happy to tell me the card i wanted had VIVO, was on a red PCB and had an additional power connector.)

i think ati tell saphire (and the others) the max clocks they can release the cards at.. else competition between the card makers/names would push em to up the clock speed out of the box.. there are some 8 pipe ones clocked a little faster but they are worked out to fit a price performance slot which is dictated by ati.. whose only competitor is nvidia..
basically ati let them have the parts cheap providing they only clock em as they are told to and not higher.. saphire is one of atis biggest partners so they get first pick the good stuff probably..
the scam is how they cleverly control the price structure.. amd and intel do pretty much the same with their cpus.. good for us lot really cos its what overclocking is now all about.. joe public in general just get confused the hell out of and end up paying out money they dont really have to for stuff thats supposed to be faster but isnt really..

Damn.
How can those X850XT's be so cheap in newegg? Here in Finland they're still like 250€ which is over 300 dollars. Maybe I should start ordering ALL my hardware from somewhere else than here. EDIT: they're often over 400€ too but lowest can be found just under 250€.

Excuse my language, but I'm not fucking buying anything.
The dudes at the place I bought this crappy gto2 from won't take it back, whatever I say. They just say that it's fully functional and they won't take back video cards that have been overclocked. F them. I probably have to stick with this one, and I'll overclock it as high as I can, which is almost 40MHz up for core and almost 50MHz up for memory. Not even near to X850XT.
I guess I could try selling it at an auction in the net, but I won't get all my money back. I'll buy a new card when it's really time for it then. And that's too far away :(:(:(
EDIT: Ok I'm cool now. You can post here again ;).
So with those oc's clocks on my crappier than crap X800GTO2 or should I say XL, I managed to get a few more 3DMarks..
With original clocks, I got 10616 in 3DMark03, and with the oc'd clocks (437/535) I got 11332. With orig. clocks in 3DMark05 I got 5121 and with oc'd clocks 5542. I guess that's okay then..
