ok i have a new system wic h is corrently not working but will be up and running as soon as possible because of a windows error. but i just built a new system with:
Asus A8R-MVP
AMD 3800 X2
ATI x1800xt
seagate 300 gb barracuda
creative x-fi extrememusic
1gb ram(soon to 2gb)

so my question is wich cooler would be the overall best for my AMD 3800 x2. so i may overclock it to mabey 2.4-2.6Ghz?

7.Aerocool gt-1000 http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1286701&CatId=1997

so far ive been thinking of getting the thermaltake silent tower 2, and the big typhoon
but the aerocool gt-1000 is gold plated so that caught my attention. and i have heard many good things about the zalman 9500, and the hyper 6 because someone said they got an AMD 3800 x2 to 2.7 Ghz which i HIGHLY doubt with the hyper 6. thx for replies

Get an XP-90C and a high airflow 92mm fan unless noise bothers you. In which case I'd go with that Zalman. Oh and that 2.7ghz is possible on that cooler, it would just run hotter than it would on the rest of the coolers.

XP-90 is old news.

I'd recommend a cnps 9500led. It works well for me. Another solution to review is the sunbeam tuniq tower. It seems to stand up nicely.

also I seem to get the inclination that the scythe ninja and thermaltake's typhoon would outperform the cnps with a bit higher cfm fan, sacrificing their relative quietness.

An miportant note is to choose a cpu cooler that improves air flow in the case instead of working against it. Blowing towards the back and top of the case.

hey man dont diss the xp-90. i have the aluminum one and it kicks arse even in my shitty rig. a presscot oced to 3.4 and 1.5v running 2c over ambient is a accomplishment.

i would reccomend the xp-90c. i have a 2500 rpm TT fan on mine and its cool and quiet.

The Big Typhoon wins all tests, the ArcticCooling Freezer 64pro is not that far away from the top and by far the cheapest. Choose what you need, the best or a reasonably cheap but still stron performing HSF. All other mentioned coolers are in comparison overprized - being weaker, but not cheaper than the Big Typhoon. The Big Typhoon has the one drawback of being REALLY big. If you can get it cheap, the Thermaltake Blue Orb 2 might be a tip. It's nowhere as good a performer as even the Freezer 64pro, but very silent and beautiful. :-)
