ok i have a new system wic h is corrently not working but will be up and running as soon as possible because of a windows error. but i just built a new system with:
Asus A8R-MVP
AMD 3800 X2
ATI x1800xt
seagate 300 gb barracuda
creative x-fi extrememusic
1gb ram(soon to 2gb)

so my question is wich cooler would be the overall best for my AMD 3800 x2. so i may overclock it to mabey 2.4-2.6Ghz?

so far ive been thinking of getting the thermaltake silent tower 2, and the big typhoon
but the aerocool gt-1000 is gold plated so that caught my attention. and i have heard many good things about the zalman 9500, and the hyper 6 because someone said they got an AMD 3800 x2 to 2.7 Ghz which i HIGHLY doubt with the hyper 6. thx for replies

Many coolers force air down onto the CPU, cause local turbulence and thereby
interfere with the efficient flow of air through the case.

The Zalman 9500 does a very good job of cooling your CPU. An exra bonus is that by
pointing it toward your upper rear or blowhole fan, its fan actually assists in venting
warmed case air OUT of the case.

Okay now, where did you copy/paste that statement from! I would get the XP90 w/92mm fan and make sure you have a 120mm fan on your right case window as well. My 2cent....

all of those are fantastic coolers... so its kinda hard to choose...
but i'd go with the zalman just cause of its unique design and the fact that its the best looker..

if you're lazy- AC Freezer 64 pro
if you're ready to remove your motherboard to install this thing- Thermaltake Big Typhoon
If you want a suggestion- Thermaltake Beatle/some cool jet engine like thing by Asus (sorry, no links :P)
my opinion- dude you're running an A64. those things are COOL (literally and figuratively  ). I have yet to see mine get above 34*C under load, see system specs.

zerk, that all sorta depends on what kind of overclock you're running it at...

my socket 754 2800+ can run at 2.6ghz actual clock with 1.65Vcore (stock is 1.8ghz 1.5V) and the load temps can get to 46-47C.
although currently im running it 2.25ghz and the load temps are 42-43C.
and its watercooled.

Zalman all the way.. they are reallt good... You could also try a XP-120 with a 100+CMF fan on it.. Thats also works really good.

excellent point, the AMD HSF isnt that good under OCing, I admit...but anyways, I found links for some of the coolers I was talking about before.
Thermaltake beatle- pity, newegg doesnt carry it.
Asus cooler thingy (Star ice)- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16835101201R

Just a reminder...passive CPU coolers may be silent, but if you're overclocking, passive coolers are better insulators then coolers :p

Both the same Cu on Cu on CU pad /fins/heat pipes both made by Thermaltake
HEAVY 680g / fan loud at full speed vibrates mb at high spin due to fan pitch being off

wind tunnel great flow to rear exhaust thremal control and manual both work fine
exhaust settup & drilled for 80 mm fan to push/ pull air
great cooler for 32.00 current retail in Toronto 44/55 can

50$ without fans meaning at least 65$ shipped? none of the above. lol
why delay and get a massive, noisy, case limited aircooler that will mess with system airflow and overall not be as good a performer as watercooling. lol

90$ for the ac1 will cool both the cpu and gpu with the secondary rad inbetween the two so as not to create cpu heating up gpu scenarios.
I can vouch personally for the ac1 as i had it for 2 years and it ran both my axp 2600m and my a64 3500 newcastle. for the 2600m it ran it at 2.7GHZ (i loved the unlocked mult 13x208) and the newcastle at 2.6GHZ 239x11 newcastle would idle at 30C and load at 37C barton at 32C and 40C

as for the newer kingwin, the primary radiator is better but theres no divide in the cpu/gpu loop that said go cpu first gpu second. but it will probably outperform the ac1.

go with asus star ice because it looks frickin sweet :D . Though personally I'd go with arctic freezer...keeps your RAM nice and cool and blows hot air right out the back. silent too!
