When changing the HDD Acoustic Management from one extream to the other, I get an error "AAM value did not change" and the slider jumps back. But if I click on Read, it shows that it has changed and the slider jumps to where I set it. I never seen it happen if I only change it part way. I am wondering if an additional delay needs to be added between writing the new value and reading back the register to see if it changed.

is the AAM supported by the hard disk?

As I said before, it does change (I can hear it change). And if I hit read after hitting write, it always moves the slider to where I set it. It just gives me that error when I move it from one extreme to the other. If I move in small steps, it works fine. It is a Maxtor drive. (6L200P0)
