Does that mean I passed...??

:toast:

I got the Accelero on with no problems, I did trim back a few fins (3 of them)...
Do you think, judging by the picture, my VRM's are probably good?

:rockout:

Yeah you passed great :toast:

Card looks nice and like how you used the other original hole and the copper sink clears the post in the right.

Your VRMs will be fine like the rest of the card, nice sink job :)

Thats exactly it, but I had an idea. If I cut those "pads" where the sink makes contact with the vrms off, the hole is bigger than the pins on the Enzo mos c1s but not the base and use a little thermal epoxy as trt740 mentioned then obviously stick a few more on and after the epoxy dries up a quick coat of black spray paint for looks and I think that I would be in buisness.

The silver solder is mostly tin and according to this chart tin is not very thermally conductive. I just saw Mussles say in a post that he "glued" two coins together with thermal epoxy years ago and they are still stuck together. So trt740's idea is the way to go, thanks. :)

So making a Enzo-stock-black-sink combination, sounds cool. Surface area goes up, mounting will be easy and you get to use thermal paste instead of tape.

Yep, silver tin has something like 4% of silver so not that great it seems. Epoxy it is. You plan on filling the "hole" flat or just so that they stick? Either way I think others would like a sink like that too :)

Yea, i figured it would work by drilling in one hole on the heatsink...
So my card had nothing glued to it...that's what I was worried about...
If the card goes bye bye, I can take the sink off, put the old one back and ship it off...

OK, here are my temps, this is after playing about 1 hour of Left4Dead...
My previous temps (hence before the Accelero) were the following (didn't think about a screenie):
89-90
75-77
77-83
75-77

Now they are:

That's the difference....
Again, you guys have been a huge, huge, help, and I've learned quite a bit...
Hope my experience helped...

Nice drop in temps. You must have noticed the noise, or the lack of it too while gaming :)

Added your card to post #270 as Enzotech NVIO cooling example.

http://forums.techpowerup.com/showpost.php?p=1440587&postcount=270

Thanks for adding it...

Also, the noise is much quieter than the stock fan...
Only 40%, when I bumped it to 100%, I honestly didn't notice the difference, maybe that's me, all those years of playing in a band, my poor ears...

See, I do Music Demos on my PC, and I can't have that thing loud.
My cooling is extremely silent...

In a quiet case! Now that is impressive. Good work.

well looks like I won't be giving you an update on a 260 gtx 216 core install

I just got a deal on a retail boxed 4870x2 for 309.00. shipped. So The cooler and my current 260 gtx 216 core are gonna be returned  I just couldn't pass on that deal. I will however, give ya an update on a 4870x2 with one of these coolers. May not be for a while since I'm broke but we will see. If anyone else wants the same deal here it is http://www.mwave.com/mwave/skusearch_v3.asp?scriteria=AA73934. It's not a 295 gtx but it's approx 229.00 cheaper and is the second fastest card made.

No worries. Good to go on the red side for a while, keeps life colorful :) Wouldn't want one of those at the moment though, 26C ambient, got hot up here on arctic circle too.

Loving Accelero Xtreme more now that it's hot, card would melt with stock cooler :p Well not, but it could get loud. Doesn't seem to mind the rise in ambient much, idling @45C.

Even went and dropped CPU OC, now at 3GHz with higher multi and lower FSB (so that lower idle speed). Might have to go stock tomorrow :ohwell: Evil summer, I want winter cold back

Hey guys, Im wanting an aftermarket cooler for my GTX 285, now I wasnt going to touch this cooler with my GTx 260 cus of the VRm temp issue, but ive just reapplied the TIM on my 285 and noticed that there isnt actually any contact made between the cooler and vrms.

So i'm trying to work out the best solution for me, I dont like the fact AC say to leave ram without heatsinks, but I cant seem to source the thermalright GTX 285 heatsink kit in the UK.

What you guys think is the best option? I had thought of trying to get hold of a GTX 285 stock cooler and cut it up, but that could be hard to get hold of too. Sorry if q's have been asked like this before, I did have a quick check through all 13 pages, lol.

Well, check out Post # 270...
Tons of options.
I have the GTX275, and did the Copper Heatsink option for the NVIO where I dremeled a new hole in the heatsink and got Scythe 1000s, I love it...
Wasn't as hard as I thought...
I was even able to get the Accelero RAM sinks to stay put!

The trouble is sourcing stuff, UK doesnt have the egg and all the great places which supplies with loads of great sinks, etc. :(

I was just wondering whether the sinks are entierly necessary thats all.

Anyone know if the thermalright kit works on under the accelero?

EDIT:

Thanks for that, post 270 is really helpful, and I think im going to do this (thanks TuxBrothers hope you dont mind) I can get the scythe chips in the UK and i dont mind a bit of sink modding to get it done, this route is also cheapest for me.

Also, take note, you might not need to modify the NVIO (which is that secondary chip) if you don't have that Raised up Crystal thing between the NVIO chips and RAM sinks...

Good luck and take pics!!!
These guys here are awesome support...I couldn't have done it without their help...

Ill def get pics up of progress, mine going to look virtually identical to TuxBrothers.

One last thing, can the accelero not fit with the GPU Brace in place?

Ah cancel all that the 4870x2 wasn't gonna make it to my house in time before I left for vacation so I had to cancel it. I didn't want it sitting on my front porch for a month. I used the Thermalright heatsink kit and the Accelero on my 260gtx 216 core. The Thermalright kit worked great for my 260gtx 55nm. The cooler is ten times quieter than the stock cooler and my chip never goes over 50c under load, unless I use occt then it hit 58c. My overclock didn't go up very much but that's not the coolers fault. The shaders on this card just won't go that high. This cards max 24/7 clock is 750/1512/2376. That's not terrible considering it comes cocked at 590/1295/1998, and at this 24/7 stable clock, this card matches or comes very close to a 275 gtx FTW. I didn't take pictures because my install didn't add a thing to what has been done before. My PCB was the standard 260gtx model with the smaller center post that doesn't interfere with the NVIO heatsink.

Yes...
It's pretty easy, the screws are on the back, just take all the screws out and pop it off...

You'll be all set....

UK has http://www.quietpc.com/ it has Scythe sinks http://www.quietpc.com/gb-en-gbp/products/vgacoolers/vga-heatsinks and more.

And you're welcome. Made the #270 just for these reasons, easier to refer to it than to read whole thread trough :) Post 270 has also info on the Thermalright kit. (yes it'll work)

Accelero will not fit with the brace in place. If you really want to keep it, then you have to cut the mounting feet a bit. The feet have 2 sets of hole and the closer ones interfear with the brace.

Good luck with the cooler :) (ps. with GTX 260 you would have been fine on VRM temps with the cooler too)

I used the Thermalright heatsink kit and the Accelero on my 260gtx 216 core. The Thermalright kit worked great for my 260gtx 55nm. This cards max 24/7 clock is 750/1512/2376. I didn't take pictures because my install didn't add a thing to what has been done before. My PCB was the standard 260gtx model with the smaller center post that doesn't interfere with the NVIO heatsink.

The VRM area is different than on anyone's card so far? Picture of it would have been nice, then we'd have all the models covered :)

And those are some mighty clocks on the 260, beats my 280 clocks with shader and mem.

This is a diagram from Thermalright on how to install the Thermalright heatsink kit on a 260 gtx 55nm 216 core video card. On the red blocked areas I used the Thermalright heatsink kit and the green blocked areas I used the heatsinks provided by Arctic Cooler. Hope this helps.

P.S the 285 gtx VRM heatsink used by Thermalright will actually work as a NVIO heatsink , the adhesive provided by Thermalright is pretty strong, I used the Arctic cooler simply for ease of use but I did test the Thermalright VRM heatsink as a Nvio heatsink ( I marked it with a red x) but it would work. It's not as secure as the one that's bolted down but it would stay on and is big enough. Here is a Link to the Thermalright kit, http://www.sidewindercomputers.com/thgtx28vrsi.html

My GTX 260 beat those clocks with a BIOS volt mod :D

756 - 1512 - 1224

I'm hoping improving the cooling I can get my GTX 285 clocks back up and reduce the core temps considerably.

Its all ordered, got the scythe kit coming, just got to work out the best way of drilling the holes for extra mounting holes on the NVIO as I dont have a dremmel
