true, and good in theory. Doesnt explain how my screen works on DVI and not HDMI tho, it should have full EDID on both.

its quite possible that the monitors not sending proper EDID info over hdmi, My buddys asus monitor dosnt, and it drives him crazy(it also wont sleep when using hdmi, you have to manualy turn it off)

uhh, yeah my TV and my monitor does that too. HDMI specs are missing quite a few things we take for granted on PC screens.

Well, most likely the issue, and not the fault of the pc equipment....purely the fault of the HDMI consortium for changing HDMI specs so frequently, and the panel maker for not having proper firmware.

That said though, chances are, if your panel has a usb PORT(mine does), you can update the firmware.

I havea viewsonic panel, and becuase they know that this can be an issue, they offer access to EDID editing tools to right just such a problem.

FYI, no issues with scaling here over HDMI/DVI, even using both at the same time. :laugh:

dont think my screen has a firmware port, TV does but samsung havent released a firmware for it.

Too bad, but if it's a pc panel, firmware updates can be done over DVI. Not too sure about HDMI.

As an aside, whenever having issues with resolution over HDMI, EDID is the culprit 99% of the time. The sleep issue is a strong sign that your issue is EDID related, so you know what the other hard indicator is...

well the screen idles if i sleep the machine/use power states, it just never turns off on HDMI when the machine is off (DVI and VGA do)

That's the issue, among others, like the screen constantly flickering(samsung panels do this sometimes). It's like the panel is only connected via analogue(you'll find alot of panels do this with analogue connections...no sleep/off signal over analogue).

Of course, the sure-fire way to confirm it's your panel is to try another...but going by the other posters in this thread, we can almost just forget that step, and say it's the panel, and not the driver, however, there is still a small change the sleep/off signal isn't being sent on shut down...could be your hacked monitor driver is missing this, could be windows is shutting dow nto fast for it to be sent, could be the mobo, but most likey, just the panel.

the 'hacked' monitor driver is actually the official one, with nothing changed except removal of the 30 and 25Hz refresh rates. I have tested back on the normal.

My monitor doesn't sleep over HDMI either.

But in Vista x64 with cat 9.5, I have my scaling options available over HDMI.

(Sorry, wasn't gonna read the whole thread to see if that's still an issue. lol)

I actually have the exact problem in both Vista and 7; however, it works perfectly under XP. Judging from the screenshots you guys posted earlier, many other panels like mine are mis read as being 75hz instead of 60hz. I wonder if that can cause some problems with scaling.

Quick Edit: Forgot to mention that I am using a native DVI connection and not HDMI.

None of my screens get mis-read as 75Hz, however they DO get mis-read as 59Hz.

Perhaps thats the key - a screen reporting as something other than 60Hz doesnt get scaling?

i hadnt updated to the finals yet. i'll have a look at the PDF and do that.

"displays on some HDMI devices no longer fail to scale to the full display when using resolutions greater than 1152x768"

That sounds like the issue with my radeon 3200, and ending up with black bars around the image no matter what.

windows 7 specific stuff
catalyst control center allows scaling options when in "HDTV" modes - sounds promising

Known issues:
Some monitor options in the displays tab are not available for some systems (DAMN!)

Edit: nope. it still sticks at 59Hz, and scaling is still greyed out.

edit 2: i have DEFINATELY confirmed it is refresh rate related. Only one resolution here works at 60Hz and not 59Hz, and thats 1360x768 - and the scaling option showed up. It seems ATI have broken the drivers for screens that run at refresh rates other than 60Hz exactly.
Ticking the box and changing the resolutions around, i can confirm this has enabled scaling. what a weird, retarded way to do it.

I'm going to test a custom monitor driver, removing 59Hz support on my screen.

edit 3: modding the driver via rivatuner didnt give me the option at 1920x1080, but it DID give me the option at all the resolutions that used to be at 59Hz. This is seriously some tiny screwup on ATI's part, that is easy to fix.

eidairaman: it worked in older drivers. its not hard to revert to a previous version of code, back when it worked.

I've located the settings required to replicate the problem, and a workaround (forcing refresh rates at 60, disabling other refresh rates when forcing doesnt work).

All thats left is to report it to ATI (which i have done, and received email confirmation they're looking at this thread) - guess what, techs are looking into the issue.

I have it connected using a DVI-HDMI cable. @ 1920 * 1080, I can use scaling. It's a full HDMI interface issue.

can you not make your own resolution in CCC ?. Or even force 60Htz though the Control Panel ?

You can force it all you want, it bloody resets. the forcing tool is broken/not working. I needed to modify my monitor driver in order to make it stick to 60Hz.
