Samsung GDDR5 (model K4G10325FE-HC04). Nothing from Cypress series uses GDDR3.

Plus I thought ati put the backplates on cards with ram on the underside to assist in cooling, but they havn't on this one:

See those open ports on the end near the fan?

I bet that pulls in cool air and helps keep the VRM cooler than what we saw on the 4 series. Good move by ATI but it may not help much for people who have tight mid size towers.

haha, i've been on this thread since i think the 6th page or so. I'd think most people would want to look through the pages some to see whats been said and linked as alot of stuff keeps being repeated haha.

as for the 2 holes, nope as far as we no its not involved with the cooling in anyway just decorative. htere's a pic of the heatsink/fan's underside and the fan is shielded at the end so i can't be pulling air from those holes.

yea, i think you should see better performance and i've never owned a GTX 295 or HD 4870x2 but i'd assume it'd feel smoother as well, and i too sold my HD 4870 for an HD 5870 but i'm just gonna get the 1gb version. btw, nice back up card :laugh:

eh....i dout it will match a GTX 295...i'd look for it to match a GTX 285 or be a little faster. The HD 5870 is only expected to outperform the GTX 295 and the 5850 be around GTX 295 performance.

hmmm maybe, but i'd take a guess that with prices being: 5870 2gb/$449, 5870 1gb/$399, 5850/$299, that the HD 5770 will be MSRP of $199. just a guess.

Oh man, 4.8Gbps (edit: with 256-bit width) is gonna be a serious bottleneck for 2.72TFLOPS, so I'd completely agree with the indication from ATI that it would be only 60% faster than a 4870. Nvidia must be over-joyed with hearing this--I can see them eyeing the 10Gbps (edit: I mean 300GBps) mark for their GT300 cards (512-bit plus GDDR5). :twitch:
