It was on Fudzilla and I totally think they are wrong. It should fall into place right between the 4870/90 and 5850.

Only 4.8Gbps memory bandwidth?? What happened to 5.2Gbps?

Oh man, 4.8Gbps is gonna be a serious bottleneck for 2.72TFLOPS, so I'd completely agree with the indication from ATI that it would be only 60% faster than a 4870. Nvidia must be over-joyed with hearing this--I can see them eyeing the 10Gbps mark for their GT300 cards (512-bit plus GDDR5). :twitch:

maybe the 2gb version with have 5.2gbps?:ohwell:

They have to be wrong, the HD4770 can keep up with a HD4850, so its bound to be better then a HD4890.

yea, i seriously doubt the HD 5770 is going to be less performing than the HD 4890/70, that'd be ridiculous and the performance gap in the HD 5XXX series would be huge. the HD 5850 i expect to be right below HD 4870x2 performance, and they're saying the 3rd best card in the HD 5 series line up is going to be 50-80% slower than the 2nd best? erm....nah i'll wait till we get more leaked info and rumors before i believe fud's suspicion.

And I'm sure consumers will be over-joyed as well when they see the prices of what it will bring . And the only reason ATI's prices are going to debut as high as they will be is because of no direct competition from the other camp for a little while.

^i agree. I bet nvidia will launch the GT300 at their usual $599 for their top end card with their second best(GTX 360?) at $449. Then again maybe they've learned that ATI will just drop the price on the HD 5870 to $299 and out sell them again like they did with the HD 4 series. This generation i think it going to be a very interesting one, esp nvidia's gpu as they have indeed gone from 240 SPU's to 512 supposedly and this time they're mimd not simd processors. should be very interesting.

Now, where would nV conjure such 10-gigabits-per-second (DDR-10k) GDDR5 chippery?
Highest speed stuff out there is Samsung's announced 7Gbps chips, and even those are MIA, hidden deep in some Samsung lab/dungeon.

It's not even certain if Nvidia can compete yet. I mean, they probablly will but I'm thinking Nvidia's top end offering and ATi's top end cards are going to be close in terms of performance. I don't think Nvidia is going to have the luxury of overpricing their cards. Low and behold ATi has put a $100 price increase on the 5xxx series over the 4xxx series. It's going to be tough for Nvidia to price their top card over the $400 dollar mark of the 5870. Unless, of course the GT300 turns out to be another super/wonder chip and in that case there will always be those who will happilly shell out $600+ dollars for it.

Yeah I noticed that $100 price increase myself. Pissed me off proper too. I was looking forward to a 5870 too. Guess Ill end up with a 5850 if it our performs my two 4850s.

I for one hope nvidia dosen't try the renaming game again and just roll out a ton of old gpu's

from the looks, the G92 is finally gonna end its spree thankfully

You're forgetting that Nvidia is highly likely to use 512-bit bandwidth again with their GT300 chips.

I don't think gdr5 supports 512bit just yet.

Isn't it the memory controller(s) that determine(s) the supported bus width of the memory subsystem? I'm pretty sure the memory chips don't determine the support, right?

If they have one... I bet they do though. Knowing Nvidia they have something crazy, and it will cost $800.

@erocker: i'm pretty sure that the GT300 is going to be another creature like the 8800GTX was when it was released, simply due to the major overhaul that they're "rumored" to be doing. 512spu's/mimd not simd like previous SPU's and ATI's SPU's, 512-bit+GDDR5. Idk it just sounds beastly to me but i hope it isn't as powerful as i'm letting on. I love that ATI is doing perfect in the GPU market now and want it to continue.
