A die shot has popped up - and it confuses me like no other:
Either the pic is fake or AMD seriously revamped the internal structure of the shaders because if the pic is interpreted using the principle that applies to RV770 then the conclusion is absolutely CRAZY: The pic has two blocks of shaders (green squares), and each block of shaders has multiple rows of ALUs. In RV770 each such row has 80ALUs. If this chip had the same 80ALUs per row then whole chip would have 16 rows in both shader blocks, yielding a whopping 2×16×80SPs=2560SPs. But obviously that's not true 'cause we know there's "only" 1600SPs.
SO, the structure of the shader array must be changed since RV770.
OR, the pic is fake.
