Alright ive had this conversation with wolf and i currently do not have a flash drive i can use to follow his method so im looking for a ridiculously easy way to flash my 5850s to the Asus 5850 bios.

1) I need to be able to save my current sapphire bios in case of a bad flash

2) I need this to ridiculously easy to follow so i cant screw it up (im a clutz it happens dont ask as i wont tell )

3) I need the asus 5850 bios

4) optional if i had someone on here i trusted as much as bucknasty id think of using teamviewer to have said person i trust do the bios flash in windows

oh and before anyone even opens there mouth ive TRIED MSI AFTERBURNER it hardlocks every damn time no matter what and yes i edited the damn CFG file

there unlocked in terms of overclocking correct ?

some out there has to have an idea of how to do this without needing a damn flash drive im not gonna deal with getting win7 install working on that thing again took forever for it to take to the flash drive. There has to be an easy way to just swap to the asus 5850 bios right in windows.....

yes i could google but i prefer TPU members input as i see these ppl post often :toast: and for me they dont have the internet blow hard feel so excuse me for my ignorance for those whom may just link a post im looking more for someone whos done this in windows and is confident in it working

Listen If you know how to use rbe then use it and unlock your original bios I think its the safest you never know what kind of settings it contains if you flash it with that one what was made for a different company card!If you dont know how to unlock your original bios then I can help unlock it!Or if you have someone you can trust and he knows how to do it!I have tried every unlocked bios even asus hd5870 one(I have 5850):D and the best was my original:)
So let my know if you need anything!5850 is an insane card and great value for money I own club3d version clocked 975/1250 and when gaming I just set fan to 50% cause its safe and I dont have great airflow in my case!I have offcourse pushed it 1000/1300 but there is no point for 24/7 use with stock cooling!

well the asus bios i know come unlocked and set to 850 core which is all i want i dont want massive 1000 core 1300 memory i just want 850 core 1125 memory and im also aware the asus bios have higher voltage as it stands now i cant use anything BUT CCC to get 775 /1125 afterburner etc all hardlock the system so id rather just get another bios again im not looking for crazy high overclocks im looking for a nice round 850 core 1125 mem so i can just leave the fan settings at default etc and gain some fps and besides the reason i want to do the bio swap or get a dummies guide for it without using a flash drive is because once you've done it you can repeat it so to speak so i figure ill kill 1 bird with 2 stones ill get my 5850s clocked higher and ill learn a thing or two

i always just use rbe and winflash together, ive got a pci card at hand so i can allways just flash back it it goes wrong which it rarely does.

If you want to take the bios off the card use either RBE and winflash or just use gpuz.

to clarify as well, it seems the member that had an Asus 5850 stock clocked at 850/1200 had a one off, looks like Asus themselves have put the 5870 bios on that one.

my Asus 5850 is stock clocked at 725/1000, but the limits are 1090/1300.

so you have a choice, the Asus 5850 bios for the same stock clocks and higher limits, or the 5870 bios, with both higher clocks and higher limits, it will also raise your stock votlages on core and memory.

i dont care wolf i just need someone i can trust ie with teamviewer they can do the flash after i have everything ready on the desktop ;) just need someone who knows what there doing and is willing to do it so i can watch and learn the process and in case something goes wrong help me flash back to the sapphire bios

you also have to remember wolf i have to use CCC only to overclock afterburner etc just hardlocks no matter WHAT i set even 750 1050 it hardlocks >_< so if the 5870 bios work then..... i want to try them just dont know heads or tails of what im doing

okay heres the thing If you need help the first steps are go buy yourself for 15 bucks usb stick make it bootable and copy atiflash files on it!second as I can see you still want the asus bios and you wont mess with rbe, save your original bios with gpu-z and send it to me I will unlock your overdrive limits and you keep in the progress your original bios as I can see you didnt have any weird flickering and undervolted issues so you dont actually need somekind of a different company card bios!since you want 850 on core you still will be needing a little voltage boost for stability and that can do only afterburner!it wont lock up or anything you got yourself higher overdrive limits you dont even need adjust clocks from afterburner just the voltage boost!but when it comes to flashing from windows I absolutely will not help you either way if you want to try it out send me your original bios you have nothing to lose.I´ve unlocked every possible new unicode bioses or whatever good working bioses just for try out the overclocking and stability and still the original bios beats every time.not that my bios is specially good or stable just that It worked perfectly fine with original bios but offcourse if you have some undervolted or freezing issues with original clocks the you need to try some of the newer unicode bioses:)

That sounds like it doesn't like your drivers, or you have CCC running at the same time....Two Programs trying to tell the GPU what to do = bad

If you do plan on finally getting another companys bios on your card u could go for the MSI one. Anyway I once did a forced bios and that screwed my card.....so please be careful..

I have a sapphire card myself and all I did was rewrite the highest values in RBE and reflashed using winflash and that was about it.

well its all fine and good but the cards just dont want to play nice so im hoping the bios swap to the asus cards will make them behave a bit better as i said im not looking for huge overclocks but stability would be key and if what wolf says is correct and i believe it is i can get the clocks i want with the 5870 bios from asus and ive got 3 gpus so i can test it i just need someone who knows how to flash gpu bios in windows.... this wouldnt be such an issue if i didnt have to keep Win7 on that damn flash drive

thanks man ill let you know if it comes to that its a last resort ive given out some free stuff but i just hate accepting stuff for free i always feel well wrong when i do haha unless its a 965 C3 that well the hardware nut in me would drown out the bad feelings but you get the idea.

eitherway just gotta wait on wolf maybe he can help if not its back to the drawing board

but the only real reason for this is because at least with asus bios i can get voltage control etc without issue unlocked bios and if i use the 5870 bios i can get the clocks i want right from the start with a higher voltage to compensate so we shall see

Latest ATI drivers enable this by default and causes conflicts with Afterburner. Here is step by step. Click Start, Accessories, Run, when the run box opens, type regedit and launch. Now, follow these screen shots. Item 1, double click and open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE Item 1.jpg
Item 2, double click and open SYSTEM Item 2.jpg
Item 3, double click and open ControlSet001 Item 3.jpg
Item 4, double click and open Control Item 4.jpg
Item 5, double click and open Class Item 5.jpg
Item 6, double click and open {4D36E968-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} Item 6.jpg
Item 7, single click 0000 Item 7.jpg
Item 8, move to the right column and scroll down to EnableUlps. Right click, then left click modify and then change the value data from a 1 to a 0.Item 8.jpg
Repeat Items 7 and 8 for 0001, 0002, 0003.
