Obviously, Fermi architecture is more stronger architecture Evergreen. The default GTX480 well enough to defeat HD5870 2GB @ 950/1250 in most games.

and? the 480 is only just coming out of its shell the release of the 257.15 drivers pushed the 480 over the 5870

The only problem i see is that metro 2033 is not a good bench mark for those two cards due to its use of physx makes it lean towards nvidia card

WOW! The 2-week old GPU beats the 9-month old GPU!

A new product beating an older one? That's probably a first in history!

I could care less how much fermi performs, take the card to reasonable temps and consumption and lets see how it performs. ATI could pretty much make a card with the HD5X architecture that would match or beat the Fermi if they like didn't care about consumption and load temps.

I would like to replace my setup for 2 gtx480, but... that would demand a new mobo. And some new concepts on how hot components should run

Well it's not always been the case ( example 2900 xt) and this Asus 5870 gpus is better binned than prior 5870 gpus and is higher clocked, with more memory, optimized drivers, updated cooling and improved phase power. This Asus 5870 card is hardly a 9 months old product, a refresh yes, but not 9 months old. In-fact it is a Ultra tweaked top of the line 5870. The geforce card here is brand new and has 3/4 the memory of the ATI card, plus very new and hardly optimized drivers and stock ref air cooling. So we have a Ultra top end ATI card against a new basic stock model 480gtx and the 5870 loses and we are mad why? This geforce bashing is dumb and to say this produce has failed is ultra dumb. We all like ATI but this is Geforce card is hardly a bad product.

Again a single 480 gtx with the fan set right doesn't get all that hot or loud on air, SLI is a different story. We should all learn to take things on face value the 480 is faster, hotter but not unreasonably so and I had one the fan is not louder than the stock fan on a 5870( had several of them as well), in-fact at the same speeds 480 gtx is quieter. If you set the fan correctly your system will not get hot or loud. Nvidia just used to unaggressive a fan setting. It does use allot of power when oced. My 850 power supply couldn't handle a 250 gts card for physx and a 480 gtx oced, my system would shut off. However, two 5870 overclocked to hell and back were fine and faster. They cost more but were faster and there is the whole dual gpu issue and whether games support crossfire or not. Thats not a big deal but something to consider. Ati owners don't hate on the Geforce boys all this means is new more powerful ATI cards around the corner and a cheaper, second current card to Crossfire in your system. This stiff kills me, a bunch of guys overclocking everything, water cooling, with fans out the ass and 1000 plus watt power supply's bitching about power consumption. It is like a formula one drivers worried about gas mileage.

Very well put IMO

while Fermi isn't great, it certainly isn't as bad as people think. That is one of the best 5870s, with mature drivers vs a basic gtx480

cant really call it a refresh 5870, the architecture is the same, nm processing is still the same, its just got higher clocks and more ram added really. So its still and older card. Sad thing is ATI will release a new card to beat the nvidia and we will get the same argument. "OOh new ATI beat the old nvidia" Thats what its all about anyways. Too bad it took 9 months for nvidia to do it but you got to give them credit for doing it even if they had to do it the way they did.

That's a premium version of an old product, certainly not a refresh.

Any regular HD5870 can reach 950MHz core through a clock utility, without any voltage adjustments at all. The point of buying this card is to overclock it to +1GHz, which it wasn't in this review. The only practical difference between this card and an overclocked HD5870 is the memory ammount. Then again, the "review" tops its resolution at 1920*1080, where hardly any game uses more than 1GB.

And where exactly in my post did I bash nvidia's GPU? Aren't you mixing things up?

So your saying your original post was positive regarding the 480 gtx??? It sure didn't seem that way but things do lose some translation when typed and not spoken.

Not positive nor negative.
Just read the post, there's no mention of any brand either.

I guess you're being a bit reckless with that pro-GTX480 witch hunting, eh?

Very well put IMO

while Fermi isn't great, it certainly isn't as bad as people think. That is one of the best 5870s, with mature drivers vs a basic gtx480

Agreed, compared to history, Fermi is not actually bad. It is only because Evergreen breaks all the previous standards in power consumption that it makes Fermi look bad.

But when I put the GTX470 in my main rig to replace the HD4890@1000/1000. It ran at pretty much the same temp and was quieter. Even better, when sitting idle the GTX470 actually consumes about 30w less power then the HD4890, so it certainly doesn't heat my room up. While gaming, the two are pretty much the same power consumption too. But the GTX470 outperforms the HD4890 in every way.

Of course, if I still had my HD4870x2 and I would have upgraded to a GTX480. I would have gotten better performance, a quieter card, and better power consumption.

Fermi isn't bad, it is actually historically pretty good, but Evergreen is just amazing.

I'm neither pro or negative towards either company I call it like I see it, and I never insulted or flame baited you so please stop and stay on topic. Your last post has a nasty uncalled for statement and accuses me of something I haven't done.

FYI post changed to correct a mis-qoute.

Oh really? So when you quote my post saying "This geforce bashing is dumb and to say this produce has failed is ultra dumb.", you're actually just being nice?

Cut the crap. You either assume you were flamebaiting (for the wrong reasons, with the wrong guy) or assume you somehow misread my post and posted something uncalled for yourself. Just don't pretend you're the victim here.

You may have not mentioned a brand but you were clearly bashing Nvidia and the 400 gtx series for what you believe is too high of power consumption and heat out put, you can pretend you weren't but you were and I gave my opinion, so lets keep this friendly and on topic.

LOL where do I even mention "consumption and heat output"?

There's my first post in this thread, unedited:

WOW! The 2-week old GPU beats the 9-month old GPU!

A new product beating an older one? That's probably a first in history!

Throw in the over-exaggeration to make ATi look better and nVidia look worse, and it is pretty obvious the intent of his post. But that isn't what this thread is about, so lets steer it back on topic. If you two want to continue to discuss it, take it to PMs.

Great, we now have a trolling tag team.
Oh well, I just reported this nonsense so let's see what comes out of it.
