hi all,

I recently purchased 2x2gb a-data ddr2 800 pc2 6400, when i got home i was pretty extatic bout the new memory, i installed them direct. but then when the pc boots and post ( no errors btw) it displays
4096 mb pc2 5300 dual channel interleaved. i find that strange cuz the default speed of the memsticks are 800 pc2 6400. if someone knows or answer or tip, anything will do, im kinda out of ideas on this end.
i already tried switching manualy in the jumpersettings (3th tab) in the bios then the pc reboots and 9.5/10 times he fails @ posting. just the black screen & the gfx fan running crazy, i useually get that when i oc the cpu to much a full reset is needed to get it working again. no issues on how to fix that, my only issue is that my pc will not post with those 2 (or 1) memsticks @ 800 mhz .
and i realy wanted those speeds for gaming and alot of file moving in games that gives me just the 2/3/4/5 fps more that make the game smooth :rockout:
so im realy bummed out bout this.

JDEC specs. Google JDEC if you are not familiar.

Basically it is set so that the ram will boot in any PC at say 667mhz. you need to set the bios to make it run at 800mhz.

Even in DDR3 land, my sticks boot at 1333mhz even though they say 2400 on the stickers;)

I wouldnt be changing jumpers on the board, I would be going into bios and setting the correct memory divider, its voltage, and timings.

Yeh thanks for the help, but ur not reading correctly, i said i already tried to adjust the memmory speed, if have the option 667 its starts with that, then comes 833 then 1000 then 1336, but when i switch to 833 and hit f10 (save & exit ) it wont boot

Did you set the proper voltage (1.8v) and timings (5 5-5-18 for your kit I believe) in the bios?

I had this issue with some XMP dram. XMP means that the memory can run at several different speeds but will default to the slowest.

What is probably happening is that at the higher speed, the motherboard is not providing enough voltage. Also, the bios doesn't appear to be smart enough to do this automatically - which it should.

In theory, it is supposed to be able to run at all three speeds at the same voltage, but that isn't normally how it works (in my limited experience).

So in the situation I mentioned, I had to up the voltage for the dram. I don't remember how much though. You should have an option to do this in your bios but low end and mid-range boards might not have this feature.

If you decide to try this, go very cautiously since I have killed a couple of motherboards by screwing with the dram voltage. Just raise it one tick at a time. It shouldn't take to much to get it to boot. Once it does, run memtest to see if it is stable.

good luck.

btw, I would wait for a few more people to weigh in on this. I am far from being an expert and if I'm wrong, I wouldn't want to ssee you kill your m/b.

hmm no,... i looked over the options the cas latency etc, but cuz i dont know what they do exactly i dont want to change them. except if your absolutely sure that those timmings will work.
can u also provide de name of de options and what vallue i have to input ?
and the mem volt is still on auto.

That's probablly the problem then. 1st you will need to know the exact memory kit you have and find the specifications for them. 2nd, I'll need a screenshot of your bios to see how it is laid out. Since you wil be running your RAM over 800mhz at 833mhz, it's completely safe to set the voltage to 1.9v for now.

I think I found the right picture:

Change the Dram voltage from auto to 1.9v

833mhz.

Give it a try! Good luck. :toast:

Run CPUz, then post the screenshots for memory and SPD, so we can see your results.:)

They are all SPD screenshots, the first two are the same.

Yeah i noticed so i edited it again, everything is there now, including screenie of mem slot 3 (is the same as the first )

So.. your RAM isn't what is considered very good for DDR2. Cas 6 is rather high. Your motherboard was probablly trying to set the timings to cas 5 or cas 4 while on AUTO. For the best stability change the timings to 6 6-6-18 in your bios.

Is this the memory you have?
A-DATA 4GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Desktop Memory Model AD2U800C4G6

If it is, then, I agree with erocker, there are better choices out there.
Unless, you are somewhere that you were limited in your selection.

no i got the single 2gb modules x2 so total 4gb, and yeh but @ that moment all of my mem modules i had 3x2gb where busted @ the same time, verry strange... and my money flow was kinda low, and im a daily pc addict, do the math :p.

yeh i got it running now, @pc2 6700, the win 7 performance index rated the memory section from 6.8 to 7.2 pretty good improvement. i just experimented a little i figured worst case scenario, it will not post. flip the psu switch 10 sec, back on, done. ;)

any way, i will run memtest overnight for bout 10 hours. and we will see what it will do,
Thanks for the help
