Just finished to rebuild a psu with parts from 4 other psu's.

EXTERNAL CASE: Deer psu company and it's metallic shiny new
FAN: ADDA from a Sparkle 250w psu
SLEEVED WIRES: OCZ STEALTH XSTREAM 600w
INTERNAL POWER: L&C computer co. Model: LC-B450E

1- Cleaned everything
2- Tested the fans to choose the one i'll put in.
3- Cutted all wires then figure out which wires would be useful or not.
4- Put back the 20+4 main plug, 4 pins cpu plug and a serie of 3 molex plugs.
5- Cut excedent wires at the source to be sure they don't ground somewhere.
6- Reassemble everything and test.

Just to show that you can get a good psu for free and with some spare time and a local computer store that give you their scrap for free. :p

Now I have a 450W psu that can throw 230w combined load on the +5v and +3.3v or 422w combined load on +5v, +3.3v and +12v with a 18A on the single 12v rail.

:rockout:

Tested it and it's fine. The single strip of 3 molex give power to 2 X 80mm Antec tri-cool LED, one HDD and one DVD/CD combo. In fact it powers my computer like it would do with my CoolerMaster eXtreme 500W but more noisy. Should change that fan I think it's winding up at 4500 rpm :p

For this exercise were you trying to be as cheap as possible? if so that explains the black tape. On the other hand heat shrink tubing isn't that expensive. Neither are 450watt powersupplies. I'm not knocking what you have done, just asking questions.

You have to take into consideration that out of those 3 faulty powersupplies what ever failed possible could have under or over volted other components in those powersupplies. It's very possible you have a fire hazard there. Other then that I guess good job!

Exercise was to hav fun and the soldering or the shrink tube is not necessary when you really know the method to twist wires ;) My technique was useful up north in rocks, dirt, mud, snow and water on my old Ford Explorer 1992 without soldering the wires and using only electrical tape. If it can resist that then it will in a psu ;) The psu is working fine and voltages are good and stable. I started and used my rig with it with no problem. The exercise was to have fun and at same time I got a free 450w psu as a spare part only. I already have a 500w in mine and dont need more than that ;)

No doubt it was fun. :toast:

EDIT: I've modded a few PSU in my time and like you used it as a spare or until the new one came in.. hehehe :toast: I just wouldn't be brave enough to run it 24/7... hehehe

Hey, I thought you were young to solder the wires to the PCB. ;)

Nicely done anyways.

Young ?? D I look like retarded? lol BTW whats a PCB ? I'M born speaking french

Gaaah, I'm tired! I tried to say:

I thought you were soldering the wires to the PSU itself, the PCB is the "card" everything is connected to.

No man why should I do complicated when I can do it like that ? ;) Also on the 4 pins CPU plug there is 2 yellows and 2 block but I taped them in double output to drive more juice to the CPU in case of overclocking so there is 4 yellow wires plugged on 2 yellows of the plug and same for the black ones.

HUH? :wtf:

You had your fun. Just my opinion, but, I would toss it or fix\test it correctly.
Joints not correctly joined (no soldering)... twisting together(ok for temp or emergency). Asking for trouble if you you use it, as is.

Let's see Chernobyl, Bopal, Exxon Valdez, Five Mile Island, and... MohawkAngel!

ok, i thought you at least soldered the ends together. Gotta go with viper here.

Also, that tape will loose itself in heat I think.

I will have to show you a thread how to do twisting properly cause nobodies seems to know it here :p

For the electrical tape no problem for the heat believe me ;) 80 celcius electrical tape its far enough for the purpose of a psu.

This psu ran my system fine and got no problem with it. I just have to change the fan its too noisy at high RPM.

No offense meant, but you can show me twisting wires until the cows come home; it is not a preferred\optimal method for electrical\mechanical connections.

They will degrade electrically and mechanically. Seen it many times.

So have fun with your ghetto mods, as people call it. I call it improper, but this is just my opinion.:ohwell:

Outta here!

Outta here ! lol Girly expression when girlfriends know they are not gonna win a discussion lol

I've used this method on my truck under heavy rain, snow, hot summer and winter at -47 with twiting only and electrical tape. For a truck going maily in wood, swamp , dust and mud so for the lack of resistance you can go tell ti to someone ;)

Yup your own opinion but i know what im doing here so have fun on your side ;)

Just keep in mind that L&C PSUs are manufactured by Deer, and are pretty much never capable of reaching their labeled wattage without going out of spec on everything. Not slamming your workmanship though, but the quality of the craftmanship from the PSU manufacturer itself is dubious.

Watch the name calling. I was being nice about it.

But... YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING!

And, I do not usually yell.

Go to School; or at least read and understand something about electronics, before making incorrect\mis-leading remarks to people.

If you do not want opinions or info on what you do, then don't post.

And, as a final note... I have been using the terms "outta here" before you were, probably, in the fallopian tube.

Have a nice day!;)
