You seem to be confusing a dual GPU card with a single GPU card.

The discussion here is about a single GPU card: though you may compare it to dual GPU cards of previous generation, comparing it to dual GPU cards of the same generation seems ridiculous IMO, in the sense that it's obviously going to lose to the dual GPU card regardless of by how much (as long as the dual GPU card has the proper scaling in whatever is being tested).

nope he tried changing the subject to try and refute my argument, I see he didn't altogether fail. We were discussing the possibility of the GTX580 being faster than hemlock (we'll use that so no one else get's confused) and as posted above the 580 is slated to be 20% faster than the 480 and the 480 is 10% slower than hemlock.

he then brought up drivers and in that process tried to bring in caymen but it was an unrelated entry into an argument concerning the 480, the 580, and hemlock.

as for single vs dual, again not exactly relevant to the argument at hand whatever gf100, gf110, and hemlock are gpu wize is irrelevant to the argument that the gf110 will be faster than hemlock (r800) and where pricing is expected to be based on performance and pricing of current cards

The way i see it, if 580 only brings a 20% improvement over 480, it's a failure unless it get's this 20% boost @ a significant lower power drain (15-20% range?): if so, then it's a win, in my book.

That's the claim. Higher performance, significantly lower power envelope. At this point it is very difficult to know. But with GTX460 Nvidia claimed 160W TDP which is actually higher than the max draw when on Furmark (155W), whereas with GTX480 they claimed 250W TDP and max draw actually is 320W on Furmark. Now it seems GTX580 TDP is 240W according to rumors, but here's the question. GTX460 like TDP or GTX480 like TDP? In theory 244W of MAX power consumption (vs 320W on GF100) is attainable, easily, considering GTX460's 155W.

I bet W1zzard is laughing at us all ... but at the same time it's stressful to know what others don't but you just can't tell anyone. I remember on April's fool of this year when W1zzard mentioned about quitting TPU (notice that is when I registered, but I looked for a year before I created a account here at TPU) I felt sorry for him about the 480 reviews and negative remarks and folks questioning him and his abilities. It will take a toll on you and I notice that W1zzard no longer gets involved in these squabbles over specs unless necessary. I really appreciate what he does and really look forward to his reviews.

What i find really cool is the Gigabyte 480 SOC card coming out real soon. It's got the 480 cores but is oc'd to 820 and cooled with windforce triple fan. It's design and circuitry is supposed to run 10% lower in all things heat/noise and power consumption yet with a 17% overclock it might well run like a dream (and slated for <£400).
A $600 580 will be about £500 in the UK (shaftsville). I dont think a 580 will be that much quicker than the 480 SOC. I'm already seriously thinking about this 480, let alone the 580 or 6970.

And i think people thought i was an ATI fanboi. Pfft - i just want a really fast quiet card.

Alarm Bells ringing now. This could well mean cherry picking review sites for maximum favourable press with as little negativity as possible. Buyer beware the GTX 580 - cursed card of Nvidia and surely in very very short supply.

Can you get a Gigabyte 480 SOC then W1zz? It's more real than the GTX 580!

Indeed. I agree with you MailMan, if Nvidia only plans to give certain reviewers their cards you can count me out. W1zz's reviews do justice for all cards, and I've yet to read a bit of bias in a review of his.

This is only supposed to be a paper launch in the first place, but I don't like favoring certain reviewers over others. It smells fishy to me.
