Please check out the ASUS A8V. The program called clockgen seemed to work okay with my mobo, it said the A8Vs clock generator is ICS950405, so I used that with systool, and it mostly works okay:

The issue: I'm running Opteron 165 (1800mhz, 9x200 stock).
my BIOS settings are:
9x, FSB 280, CPU clock 2520
since my ddr400 mem sucks, the mem divider is set to 4/3 (266) in BIOS to make this work, and systool reports CPU/14 for the memory ratio which i assume is corrrect. (more on this in a sec) PCI/AGP locked at 37.70, 75.40

Anyway, systool reports FSB 262.5, CPU Clock=2362. As if it cant read anything higher than this on this mobo. My Computer, General tab, says 2.52 GHz, agreeing with the BIOS.
Also, systool says Mem Clock: 168.75 (which would be correct for the systool-reported CPU speed, 2362)

all fyi, not sure if this has something to do with my bios, version 0226, the latest, or the clockgen not reading something right, or one of my bios settings. CPU-z also reports the wrong clock speed.

Thanks for all your efforts

update

It appears that my HT multiplier was set too high - FSB 280 x HT5 or HT4 would be well over 1000. Perhaps some inability of the system to read (or maybe even set) higher RAM bus clocks if the HT speed goes well over 1000. I noticed that HT 1050 was giving me sensible readings on the RAM speed. Still fiddling around.
