That is correct hence why extreme brute force air cooling is required to keep it running 24/7, heatsinks alone isn't enough past/around 1.5v the card needs high air pressure, not recommended for the average Joe Bloggs!

For others, don't blame anyone here if your card fries. :D

Overclocking and vmodding is about maxing performance, not pushing hardware so far beyond what its capable of it blows in no time flat. Thats just a waste. If you want to have an uber 1950pro, take out your precision soldering iron with your other soldering gear (which would have to amount to about 1k+) desolder most of the original components and replace them with higher spec ones, then watch the sucker fly.

The card I have will probably last more than 18-24 months, it'll likely to be replaced well before then.

Most of the hardware on my rig is overclocked well past it's stock settings, so I'm not at all concerned about hardware going kaput when I know the chances of it happening is as high as anyone else running at stock considering my rig is thoroughly stress tested (try Prime95, GPU artifact scanner, HD read/write stress testing all at once for 7 days straight!) and is running far cooler than most :p

Its not a case of overclocking. Its a case of being aware of the fact the GPU and memory arent the only components present on the PCB. Its thoughs other components you have to consider more than the GPU and memory.

Hence my overkill air flow across the PCB :D

Take for example those Vitec \ Pulse chips. Heatsinked with a fan over them your safe, even once OCd. However their already being pushed hard, you think its a good idea to push components on a PCB that are already at their limit and a bit some more by increasing voltages? Thats just lunacy, and not the good kind :p

Finger them with the card under load OCd and sink whats needed. Gut instinct tells me by the looks of that you will be ok, design is a little crude and if anything some of those black ICs may need a sink on.

You are again correct but I have the 2nd revision GT PCB that has an analog power stage rather than the Pro digital pwm/vr, so it not only runs cooler but overclocks better since it can handle the load (more importantly a higher load) a lot better than the original reference design which as you correctly noted is already running at it's max. :toast:

Which VRMs has my video card a Palit/Xpertvision 1950GT 512MB? I haven't found any Vitec/pulse Chip(it should be written on the chips?) yet and I wonder whether it is because they are not there or I am only to stupid to find them?

no the HIS cards dont have the voltage option unfortunaly im not sure on the rev 2's though so unless you do a pencil mod or resister mod you will have to either try another bios from another card and flash it like that or just try and clock it like nuts

Ta. I'm curious about mem timings on those cards, their clocked rather well compared to what most get.

^ depends on the PCB layout and components really. I can "seemingly" get 800MHz on my card, but 3dmark06 goes nuts on the firefly forest test. I'm certain my memory can reach what its rated for (900MHz) im just not sure whats holding it back, the memory is volted well too.

Well, before I start reading all 65 pages of this thread I'd like to say hi ;)

Recently I've become a proud owner of a new X1950PRO/512MB and today I've started playing with clocks a bit and got it to 661.5 MHz stable. I'm still holding off from applying any BIOS tweaks, and just using ATI Tool for now..

All in all, I'm quite satisfied with this board, and as soon as I catch up with all the chat around here I'll try to push it a bit further (for now I've got to see why screen blacks out on any memory clocking :D and what are the acceptable core temps to go with...)

Wish me luck ;)

EDIT: Added bios taken with ATIWinFlash, maybe gives some new info :) Cya tomorrow..
EDIT2: Couldn't go to sleep :D After reading few more pages I've came to the conclusion that ATITool is no good for mem clocks on my card.. Just running 3DM06 after ocing with Rivatuner to 780Mhz mem (ok, just crashed now :D ).. well, ok here on 770, and I just got... (waiting :D ) - 6035 3dmarks06.. :) Now a question: are 71C core and 48C ambient too high temps or not? (load, max during 3DMark)
