on mine with the 4 threaded rods in it, I just slid it on after adjusting slightly to get in the holes. No mods were done to it. Was a real easy fit on the HD3870. Also the backplate has a foam backer that sits atop of the resistors. The actual "x" backplate is clear acrylic with black padding underneath it!

plus its got the bridge chip or whatever in the way as well so id either have to get some plastic washers and bolt it directly to the card or try to mod the back plate

PM me what you want for the block its acetal top right?

Is there any particular reason that you don't want to use the mcw60 block? There is also a Koolance Vid-385 block but it seems to cost around $100 whereas I used the swiftech block and it fit like a charm. I have it running on my waterchiller so my temps never go above 21C even with an overclock of 810/1035 using ati tool!! Here is a pic of my card and my 3dmark score with my overclock in the background.

the image is crap , but it shows my idea. I get that you are worried about the AGP chip on the top.

I do however see the ability to remove a bit of material from the acrylic backplate , so it would go around said chip, yet leaving enought to be structurally ok still.

Well, honestly I didn't even take that into account when placing the block on my card. I went on ahead and placed the back plate on top of the padding (covers only a small amount) and tightened it up. I have a pic that slightly shows my the backplate and you can barely see how it covers the pad.

How I missed this thread I don't know. I'm in the same boat. I've e-mail EK Waterblocks to see if their 3850/3870 are compatible with the AGP version, but I haven't had a reply.

The guys at the Cooling Shop (.com) have said they're not which is a bit of a bitch really. I've got almost everything ready and I find out that my 120MM won't work with my Lian Li so I'm purchasing a 240MM rad and going to add my GPU into the loop. It's not overkill as it is only a stop gap until I get my Nehalem (or AMD equivilant) based set up in the next couple of years.

I'll keep you posted with my findings.

maze4/maze5 works as long as its the updated "series2" mounting, you just have to moddify the mounting plate to clear the bridge chip.

im not shure if the fullcover blocks will fit due to component placement on the AGP models but GPU only blocks should fit ;)

i tried to attach a pik. i just hit that mount with my bench grinder and slowly removed material untill it cleared the bridge chip

InnocentCriminal. I found you in the HD3850 thread. Did you find the perfect block for this card yet? Sorry I'm a few years late.

http://www.zalman.com/eng/product/Product_Read.asp?idx=286

I wonder will this fits the AGP version. Any one had exp about this block?

They didn't give me a direct answer, they sent me the layout of their block and told me to try it for myself. As I don't have the file anymore I can't be sure if it'd work.

Sorry.

PM me, the Microcenter near me has a few EK/DD full-coverage blocks on super-clearance right now. I can't remember exactly which, but they were ATI 3xxx, 4xxx, and 5xxx cards. I mean like as low as $19 for a full copper block!

We are in the same boat. If I have to get stand alone GPU block. I would consider the Koolance:

http://koolance.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=0_29_46&product_id=1059

Since the 3850 AGP is an ancient card. Many thing we have to try it our self. What board you got. I'm on the HD 3850 forum right now.
