well like i said before, when i asked about buying a new psu i said i probably would be a Q9450 oc it and get crossfire and they told me 620 would be fine. so yeah.

get it if u want but it wont help your overclock in the slightest.. u need to learn exactly what u are doing.. the real problem is when your entire system is near its limit u really can get confused and blame the wrong thing.. knowing exactly which piece of your too near the edge system thats causing the problem is hard without much experience..

nothing is 100% stable when its all near the edge.. find the edge then drop back 10%.. when u are trying too hard dropping back10% for stability requires losing too much from a benchmarking point of view.. it could be the difference between obsession and passion.. he he he

tooo much passion can soon become obsession.. having said that the only way to learn and get it out of your system is to do it.. but all this so called hardware bad luck u are having is down to u doing something wrong.. it aint the hardware its u..

but i think the only real way to learn is the hard way.. advice only goes so far..

i recon the big one with the steam coming outta the top..

just check the voltages on its 256000 volt rails before u buy thow to make sure.. :eek:

Freak, I just realized that I have absolutely no quad-core overclocking experience whatsoever. So naturally I gave you an answer that I know. After reading up, there are folks that can't get where you are at with a quad at all. I hope that I'm not one of those when I get one. I truly hope that you get some really awesome cards for your RMA. Just for reference the S/N on my two cards are XXXXXX4321 and XXXXXX4326. I can deffinitely tell that one is better than the other as one idles at (no kidding) 28c in a 67f room while the other idles at 32c. Good luck, I'm pushing for you to hit that magic number. But remember, not every team can win the Superbowl every year. :toast:

I understand what your saying. my quad i think ive pushed it about as far as it will go. i hit 3.8 on 1.6v for bench and im not really gonna try for much more as 1.6 on a 1.25v stock is pushing it.

As far the cards, i hope so! Danish devil is going to trade me his HIS for my diamond if its modable

Is it common for the HIS 3870 cards to have bad memory OCs? for some reason I cant get mine to go above 1150 (thats a net increase of 20mhz! wth) Core does fine though at bout 890

my HIS would only do about 1200 and crash. so honestly that doesn't surprise me.

ask erocker though, he may know more since he as dual HIS cards.

Funny though, how I'm having to drop the o/c on my gfx mem. Would the fact that I'm now using cat 8.3 have any bearing? :wtf:

Yes, it unfortunately seems quite common. These cards are all over the board in terms of overclocking. You could try flashing the card(s) to a bios that supports more voltage, but it guarantees nothing. 890 for your core is very good without any type of pencil mod or otherwise. I have a feeling that these different memroy clocks are the result of HIS using varying bios' with different GDDR timings. I've seen at least 4 different pictures of PCB's that look the same, yet some have different/added/missing resistors etc.

Personally, I prefer exhausting air out the back. Is this for an IceQ cooler? If it is, deffinitely stick with that. Or... Test them both?

Switched to Dual Core

I finally got my new mobo up and running stable, at least for now! I recently upgrade from a p4 3.2e to a e6700 and an Asrock Dual sata2. After having my Powercolor 3850 card for over a month I was ready to upgrade but still wanted to make use of my agp card. I have been able to get stable at a FSB of 284, my cpu is at 2.84 and vid card at 810/1026. My 3dmark06 score went from 7100+ to nearly 11K, I think with a few tweaks and my new Geil ram (should be here in a few days) I should be able to break the 11K mark!! I already modded an old waterblock (socket 478 Maze4 block) and used some 775 brackets to hold the block and have been able to chill this cpu down to 2C and ~17C full load (orthos). Too bad I dont have cpu voltage options, I think I could really do some high scores with this setup. Please don't post this score yet, I think I can still best this score yet!
